I'm confused about this Cruz Citizenship thing

Posted on 03/23/2015 1:17:25 PM PDT by bigdaddy45

So I saw several years of complaints that Obama was born in Kenya. Lets assume he was. His mother is an American citizen; there isn't any dispute there. And, in the minds of those who believe he was born in Kenya, that means he's not eligible to be President.

Lets move to Ted Cruz. He was born in Canada. His father wasn't a US Citizen at the time of his birth. His mother was. So if Obama being born in Kenya supposedly matters, why does Cruz being born in Canada NOT matter?

Evidently it didn’t matter for Obama.

You’re treading dangerous waters here, FRiend. I agree it needs to be discussed, but I think too many FReepers are still high on the Cruz speech to breach this subject.

Under prevailing US law at the time of Obama’s birth, he should have assumed Daddy’s citizenship due to his mother’s age. Not the case with Cruz.

That said, it also depends on whether you are in the camp of the “old” or “new” definition of ‘Natural Born Citizen’.

Don’t worry. There will be a lot of people coming along on both sides of the issue giving you 6 dozen reasons why he’s eligible, and a similar number of reasons why he isn’t.

....citizenship “at birth” of one born outside of the United States to only one citizen-parent, that such citizen parent have resided in the United States for not less than ten years, at least five of which were after the age of fourteen (8 U.S.C. §1401(a)(7)) (1958 ed.)

We all know Mr. Obama’s mother didn’t met this requirement.

0 has proven that one no longer needs to prove he/she is an American in order to be elected President. Republicans agree with 0.

The Obama citizenship ruckus was always a silly ploy by people who think they, not the courts, are the ultimate interpreters of the law.

Down with Obola, because he thinks he's king and can change anything he wants with the stroke of his pen! Long live Cruz, because he'll be king and can change everything Obola has done with a stroke of his pen!

The right doesn't like big government, unless it's THEIR big government. Lol.

Why is this “dangerous waters”?? I think Ted Cruz is a good man, and I actually texted “Constitution” after his speech. But if Sheriff Joe and Donald Trump and who knows who else was screaming for Obama’s birth certificate.. was that all a charade? Does it only matter if THEIR guy isn’t born here?

So if Obama being born in Kenya supposedly matters, why does Cruz being born in Canada NOT matter?

Because Emperor Zero was twice elected as President. The libs got what they wanted: establishing that anyone whose mother is an American can legally be President.

Okay, now we go Alinsky on them, and use it against them.

And at least Cruz did not give people a forged birth certificate. But then again, he has no reason to, either. OZero does.

OZero needs to pretend he was born in the USA because his mother renounced her American citizenship and married a foreign national on foreign soil. She also renounced OZero’s citizenship, but legally, that does not matter so long as the Kenyan Usurper can convince people that he was born on U.S. soil.

Problem is - he was born in Hawaii.

Let’s re-frame the issue. We have Ted Cruz, who has argued 7, 8, or 9 cases before the Supreme Court, I forget the number. Dershowitz called him his brightest student ever. Do you think you or I or anyone on this board has a better grasp of the legal underpinnings than he does?

With respect, I don’t see what you are going to gain expending brain cells on this point.

Very good question. I remember reading that there was a distinction between the cases but cannot remember specifics.
