The grunts were hood winked into fighting for a bunch of slave-owning poltroons on the idea of ''states rights''. What rights were those? The right to own slaves. The conscientious objector who does one valorous thing isn't on the same level as the man who risks his life and sometimes sacrifices it so the conscientious objector can object. In my book that puts him way above the objector.

Killing Yankees with government furnished ammo and rifles was a deal to good to pass up. Simple as that.

I don't believe that for a moment because that would make them scumbags. I don't think that they were scumbags.

Seems like you know a lot about being a scumbag so I will take your comment under consideration.

The grunts were hood winked into fighting for a bunch of slave-owning poltroons on the idea of ''states rights''.

Around ONE MILLION to 1.5 Million men served with the C.S.A. and all of them hoodwinked you say?

The conscientious objector who does one valorous thing isn't on the same level as the man who risks his life and sometimes sacrifices it so the conscientious objector can object.

Thomas W. Bennett
Desmond Doss
Joseph G. LaPointe, Jr.

Three conscientious objectors that happen to be Medal of Honor recipients. Note that Sp4 LaPointe also received: Silver Star, Bronze Star, Army Commendation Medal He was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor.

I do understand the the free range time and targets could be fun...

Some of my older kin that stayed on the farm (Southern Ohio) used to say ‘Thank God for a few miles and a river!’.

One of those, ‘whose ox is being gored’, kind of things.

How does a conscientious objector win the MOH?

Yup, hoodwinked. They lost a war they started. A war btw, they had every intention of winning.

To make that sort of “joke” about American servicemen is a shiite-heel thing to do.

Note Well: The Medal Of Honor is never given like a door prize; one does not ‘win’ the MOH.

The Medal of Honor is America’s highest military honor, awarded for personal acts of valor above and beyond the call of duty.

JOSEPH G. LaPOINTE JR.
Rank and organization: Specialist Fourth Class, U.S. Army, 2d Squadron, 17th Cavalry, 101st Airborne Division .

Place and date: Quang Tin province, Republic of Vietnam, 2 June 1969.

Entered service at: Cincinnati, Ohio. Born: 2 July 1948, Dayton, Ohio.

Citation: For conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty. Sp4c. Lapointe, Headquarters and Headquarters Troop, 2d Squadron, distinguished himself while serving as a medical aidman during a combat helicopter assault mission. Sp4c. Lapointe’s patrol was advancing from the landing zone through an adjoining valley when it suddenly encountered heavy automatic weapons fire from a large enemy force entrenched in well fortified bunker positions. In the initial hail of fire, 2 soldiers in the formation vanguard were seriously wounded. Hearing a call for aid from 1 of the wounded, Sp4c. Lapointe ran forward through heavy fire to assist his fallen comrades. To reach the wounded men, he was forced to crawl directly in view of an enemy bunker. As members of his unit attempted to provide covering fire, he administered first aid to 1 man, shielding the other with his body. He was hit by a burst of fire from the bunker while attending the wounded soldier. In spite of his painful wounds, Sp4c. Lapointe continued his lifesaving duties until he was again wounded and knocked to the ground. Making strenuous efforts, he moved back again into a shielding position to continue administering first aid. An exploding enemy grenade mortally wounded all 3 men. Sp4c. Lapointe’s courageous actions at the cost of his life were an inspiration to his comrades. His gallantry and selflessness are in the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit on him, his unit, and the U.S. Army.

I know it isn’t a door prize jerk. At the point a man is engaged in combat then he’s no longer objecting. Such men like Alvin York. God bless Specialist LaPointe. he’s more of a man than the both of us.

When it comes to pissing matches, I go with the Powell Doctrine;only go in with overwhelming strike capabilities!

Or maybe if I have been overserved?

That said, every peacetime infantry unit I ever saw HATED every other unit! Grunts got a to have some fun!

Yes, my nose and some knuckles were broken, it was those damn ropes they love to string out around the sidewalks, a serious tripping hazard!

Or, as is sometimes posted;”Lighten up, Francis” !
