Speaking out about the false bargain that blacks have made with the new liberalism will doubtless earn him, if it hasn’t already done so, the old opprobrious title of Uncle Tom. The irony here is that Shelby Steele might just be a Tom of a different kind—a black Tom Paine, whose 21st-century common sense could go a long way to bringing his people out of their by now historical doldrums.

Liberalism has always been about manipulation. Moral, social, economic, and political. The liberal agenda has always been passed through activist courts. It has had to because if their nonsense was ever put on a ballot decent minded people would reject it out right. And the public schools have also served and continue to serve as liberalism laboratory.

In the steps of Frederick Douglass walk Shelby Steele, Clarence Thomas and Thomas Sowell, modern black heroes. Would that more American blacks read their writings and understood their teachings. The perpetuation of racism by professional race baiters who profit from it and the liberal guilt trippers who wallow in it is the greatest crime against blacks since slavery.
