Jerry Lewis (born March 16, 1926) is an American comedian, actor, singer, film producer, screenwriter and film director. He is known for his slapstick humor in film, television, stage and radio. He was originally paired up with Dean Martin in 1946, forming the famed comedy team of Martin and Lewis.

In addition to the duo's popular nightclub work, they starred in a successful series of comedy films for Paramount Pictures. Lewis is also known as the host, for more than 40 years, of the Muscular Dystrophy Association's annual Labor Day Telethon and national chairman of the MDA.

Lewis has won several awards for lifetime achievements from The American Comedy Awards, Los Angeles Film Critics Association, and Venice Film Festival, and he has two stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. In 2005, he received the Governors Award of the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Board of Governors, which is the highest Emmy Award presented.[1] On February 22, 2009, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences awarded Lewis the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award.

say what one will about his sophomoric comedy (we all were so sophisticated that no one ever went to these films and laughed our butts off as kids), or that he could be an ass off screen (see The Family Jewels where one of his characters is a circus clown who hates kids), there is no denying his entertainment longevity and success.

A good, honest read of his life and career is his autobiography Dean and Me (A Love Story)

making him an arrogant prick at times

Yup. That he was. Not many comedians are happy go-lucky people at heart. That's where their comedy comes from, either anxiety or anger.

I enjoyed him and Martin’s movies as a kid, then as I became an adult I realized how both Dean and Jerry were dicks to those around them. Both were big Democrat supporters, although Dean supported Reagan.

Turns out that Lewis thought that even the Democrats were too conservative for him in the “60”s.

Like most great comedians, Jerry Lewis is a Socialist who never liked America. We moved to France like Chaplin before him and many other that followed after him.

I respect him for his charitable work, other than that he can kiss this red blooded American’s ass.

I meant to write that “HE”, not (we) moved to France like Chaplin before him and many other that followed after him.

Neither did I. He did not appear to be in good physical shape on his last couple of telethons.

Happy Birthday, Mr. Lewis!
Now, about that clown movie...

Happy Birthday, Jerry:) He's still working:) Going to be in a film called The Trust. http://deadline.com/2015/02/jerry-lewis-the-trust-nicolas-cage-elijah-wood-1201375459/ EXCLUSIVE: Jerry Lewis has signed on to join Nicolas Cage, Elijah Wood and Sky Ferreira in The Trust, a drama that’s shooting in Las Vegas with Ben and Alex Brewer directing. Spent some time with the great Myron Cohen and his wife, he hated Lewis.

Jerry Lewis was in an episode of Law & Order...probably a few years ago, although I watched it again recently. He was Munch’s uncle and was picked up as a homeless person/murder suspect. He wasn’t that particular murderer, but he did wind up murdering someone else at the end of the program.

Thank you. I hadn’t watched the telethon in years and didn’t know Lewis was no longer active with the MDA.
