LOL! ya, that sums it up nicely.

I’d shoot first and wouldn’t even bother to ask questions later.

I loved surfing there. Never saw a rattler. The rattlers I do come across usually end up on the grill. Rattlers be good eating.

Back in the early 60s, Rangers from Eglin would come over to the Freeport Rattlesnake Roundup. They would demonstrate the snakes capability with warm balloons. They were surprisingly fast.

They also had an area where they would skin and clean the snakes. The meat looked clean and whitish. They would then batter and deep fry them. Anyone who wanted some could get basically all they wanted.

I didn’t try any but wish I had now, especially since they were given good marks by all who tried them.

The Rangers said they were their favorite food out in the wild tho I am sure they didn’t deep fry them. I bet they could be cooked over an open fire and with just a little salt would be good eating.

I got bit by a water moccasin when I was 10. It happened in Annapolis, Maryland in 1956. The damn thing came into our bathroom through the septic system, and like any 10 year old boy, I though I could grab it. He got me first. My dad killed it and brought it with us to the emergency room so they could identify it. I then got a tetanus shot, anti-venom, and they drew blood to test for rabies. Two surgeons then spent over an hour plucking fangs and teeth from my hand; I didn’t wait for the snake to let go, but yanked it off breaking off lots of its teeth in my palm.
I really hate snakes.

Eastern Diamondback is highly protected and on the endangered species list here in NY.

I have killed literally hundreds of rattlers when I was logging in the northwest (OR, WA & Northern CA) back in the 70’s-80’s.

Endangered or not, I will immediately dispose of any Eastern found on or near our property.

The Eastern Diamondback is the largest snake of any kind, native to North America.

The Eastern Indigo Snake is the longest.

I did some research on my family background and found out one of my great, great......great grandmothers was bit by a rattler in the 1790’s and an Indian Squaw treated her by cutting her and sucking the poison out so she lived. If it wasn’t for that, I might not be here.

"... an Indian Squaw treated her by cutting her and sucking the poison out so she lived. ...

We were taught to do that in Boy Scouts. They used to sell kits with little suction cups. Now they say it's the last thing you should do. Constriction bands are out too, I think.
Anyone?

From what I’ve read, everything says to get to an ED. So, only professionals can treat bites. Not good in the wilderness.

When a boy scout I learned that the worst snakes don’t rattle, they just bite and you will lose whatever appendage they bit if you lived.

This was in the Canal Zone, Camp Chagres. Damned Fer de Lance snakes were deadly.

Anybody familiar with that place?

From where do they get these writers and their lack of grammar skills? Geez.
