That, along with various other annoying names such as Hayden, Kayden, Jayden, and others, along with their horrible spelling variations. This isn't even counting the various white trash stripper names.
John: Alright, speed round. I'm gonna rattle off some names, and when I hit it, you buzz it, okay? You got me?
Ted: You do it. I will tell you. Yeah.
John: Alright: Brandy, Heather, Channing, Brianna, Amber, Serena, Melody, Dakota, Sierra, Bambi, Crystal, Samantha, Autumn, Ruby, Taylor, Tara, Tammy, Lauren, Charlene, Chantelle, Courtney, Misty, Jenny, Krista, Mindy, Noel, Shelby, Trina, Reba, Cassandra, Nikki, Kelsey, Shawna, Jolene, Urleen, Claudia, Savannah, Casey, Dolly, Kendra, Kylie, Chloe, Devon, Emmalou, BECKY?
Ted: No.
John: Wait; was it any of those names with a "Lynn" after it?
Ted: *Yes*.
John: Oh, I got you, m-f-er! I got you!
[Ted laughs]
John: Okay. Brandi-Lynn, Heather-Lynn...
Ted: Tami-Lynn.

A radio guy in Minnesota once counted something like 15 spellings variations of the name Caitlin in girl’s basketball tournament.

Are you called Gary? Your name could soon be extinct as fewer parents are choosing to call their tot it. Never use a preposition to end a sentence with.

... annoying names such as Hayden, Kayden, Jayden...Aiden, Bladen, Braden, Gaelan, Graylen, Layton, Peyton, Raiden, Raylen, Rylan, and Zaiden, right up there on the super-annoying list along with the so-called girl's names of Skylar and Madison.

Bloggers don’t have editors. :-)
But all the story means is that the name would become more unique. Unique doesn’t equal “extinct.” Again, bloggers.

That is generally true with prepositions. However, "it" is a pronoun. You are right in the sense that the phrasing is a bit awkward. I just posted it as it was written.

I just posted it as it was written.I understand and my comment was direct at the author, not you as the poster.
Back to names...I've known three women named Michael which struck me as a bit odd. One of my favorite names is Fenner, which was popular about 175 years ago. I suppose you could say I'm old fashioned.

Never use a preposition to end a sentence with. Funny reply. Also one of the most nonsensical grammar rules ever.

Aidan was an Irish saint who restored Christianity to Northumbria. That’s a name to be proud of.

Seems like most serial killers have the middle name Wayne.😃 I can feel your pain, and I am not saying that in the Bill Clinton sense of the word. Also, from my experience, most Garys that I run into or hear about tend to be blue collar workers. Not that there is anything wrong with that, it is just something that I have observed. Your mileage may vary.
Also, congrats on your first post.

It'll make a comeback eventually. At some point the popular name becomes the "old person" name. After a while, they become cool again and can make a return.
A friend of ours named their daughter "Opal" and we named our daughter "Allene", both of which were popular in the early 1900s.
