Just an interesting bit of news I found while puttering around on the net. However, I must say that I am glad that there are so few problems in the world that we can focus on the really important issues :)

I suppose that Gary will become a new name to add to the list of older people, such as Murray, Agnes, Bertha, etc.

Didn't see anything about having to excerpt articles from from Yahoo on the list, so I posted the entire article. Mods, please feel free to remove or excerpt if necessary.

“The name hasn’t been given to a girl since 1997”—sounds like progress.

“Adolf” took a hit a few years ago. Not sure just why.

There are no Saints named “Gary.”

If you want a name to stand the test of time, you need some Saints

I think after this movie character came out, the name Gary lost its luster. A comedy classic.

Years ago when I frequently visited my mother at the assisted living facility I noticed that there were a lot of popular names for girls back about 1900-1910 that have fallen out of favor. There were a lot of Ruths and Mabels. Fifty years from now the nursing homes will be bull of Taylors, Brittanies, Kendalls, etc.

As a “Gary” this is quite sad. Had no idea my name had so fallen out of favor. Who knew?

That, along with various other annoying names such as Hayden, Kayden, Jayden, and others, along with their horrible spelling variations. This isn't even counting the various white trash stripper names.

I can feel your pain. However, the name Wayne can die a horrible death as far as I am concerned. Not only does it sould rather white trash at this point, but it is unfortunately connected to a good deal of criminality, especially when it is a middle name. Freakononmics has apparently investigated this issue. Advanced apologies to people named Wayne, fans of John Wayne, or others that may disagree.

Since it originated in 1880, the name has been given to both boys and girls but is now becoming a rarity.

I have never met nor even heard of a girl named Gary, and I'm not young.
