EXCLUSIVE: Paramount Pictures is talks to acquire feature-film rights for the classic sci-fi novel The Stars My Destination for producer Mary Parent. Written by Alfred Bester, the book (better known as Tiger! Tiger! in the U.K. for its opening-page reprint of a William Blake poem) follows a man who is shipwrecked in space for years when one day a rescue crew passes him by. Angered, he channels his energies into seeking revenge and begins scheming. The key art of the book is enough to get anyone intrigued.

Can't say that I've read much Bester.

He only wrote two novels that are worth reading-- The Stars My Destination and The Demolished Man, but both are superb. (After writing those, he left SF for a long time, and wasn't much good when he returned.) Of his short fiction, "Fondly Fahrenheit" is one of the great SF short stories of all time.

Just got home from work, and bought TSMD for the Kindle. There, on the first page of Chapter One, is Gully’s ditty, and by golly, the word is “nation”, not “station”. Your memory is clearly better than mine.

Now I get to reread the book, after 30-some years. Still plan to pick up a paper copy next time I see one, though.
