rather close encounter with Venus
Didn’t Bacchus already hit it?

He may have tried but Laz beat him to it...

Most importantly of all, Cruithne teaches us that the solar system isn't eternal – and by extension, neither are we.
What an odd way for the writer to wrap it up.

Cruithne is expected to undergo a rather close encounter with Venus in about 8,000 years, however.

I'll have my telescope ready...

It'll be here before you know it.

We should try putting a lander on it too, some kind of instrument package. Similarly I’d like to see us hang a similar package on every comet that comes near. Sort of like throwing a bottle in the ocean with your name and address on it, to see where it goes and what comes back.

Now that we’ve got landers on Mars and the one comet, I’m hooked.

It would be worthwhile IMHO to stick solar-powered pingers on all the Near-Earth Objects, to track their trajectories around the Sun, and this one, being so close, might be a good choice for first one.
