Oscar Ratings Hits Seven-Year Low, Viewership Worst Since 2009
Deadline Hollywood ^ | 2/23/15 | Dominic Patten

All the awards have been given out and it looks like the final numbers for the 87th Oscars are in. Running from 8:30 PM to 11:48 PM ET last night, the Neil Patrick Harris hosted show garnered a 10.8 rating among adults 18-49 with 36.6 million viewers. Among the key demo that’s a 17% drop from what the final ratings for the 2014 Academy Awards were and the worst the AMAPAS ceremony has done since 2008.That show had a 10.68 rating. The total viewership for last night’s Oscars were down 18% from last year to hit a 6-year low. The 2009 Oscars had a total audience of 36.6 million. Now, the numbers for the 2015 Oscars could see further adjustment, as they did last year but let’s just say, it’s pretty certain they won’t be going up to 2014 or 2013 levels.

I’m 60 and I’ve never watched the academy awards.

When I was a kid growing up in the 1960’s and early 1970’s I loved watching the Oscars and I had seen most of the films up for awards. No longer though, just not fun and few really good actors out there.

Same here. And in those days, there was no home video and precious few cable channels. Award shows and film retrospectives held more interest for me at a time in which the only way to learn about film was from books and the rare TV special. I am still a huge movie fan and still collect Blu-rays and DVDs, mostly of films made before 1980. I have virtually no interest in today's movies or "stars".

There was a dog show on CNBC. Much more entertaining.

I’m 24 and I believe the Oscars are for old people who haven’t heard of the internet.

It’s amazing to me why anyone would want to waste 3 and a half hours watching a bunch of queers, freaks and perverts giving themselves awards.

I love movies and the Oscars hold no interest for me. Never have but in the post Weinstein heavy on the campaigning era it’s even less interesting. It’s just a self congratulation fest, mixed with bad variety show bits. I understand why people like it, there’s the glitz and the glam and all shiny stuff. But I don’t care about any of it. I used to kind of care who won, but Bob and Harvey killed that.

Argo, Million Dollar Baby and The Departed were pretty popular. Not to say they were deserving winners.

Well in all fairness, it was a joke on Michael Keaton’s character in Birdman.

You’re giving her too much credit...a woman who has appeared in countless TV shows and films over the course of her career, with an annual income in the six and seven-figures, has no right to lecture anyone on income equality. If she wants a bigger paycheck, Ms. Arquette should demonstrate that she can bring more people into the theater.

As an actress, she appears to have two assets. She’s lucky to have had a career that has lasted this long; most members of her profession never earn enough to support themselves. If she’s really for income equality, perhaps she should donate half of her weekly salary on CSI:Cyber (well over $100,000 per episode) to he unemployed peers.

Don’t hold your breath waiting for that to happen.

They’re saying what she was talking about what income equality for female actors...which comes across as more narcissistic. Remember those Sony email leaks where it came out that Jennifer Lawrence didn’t get paid as much as her costars? But seriously if you want more money than hold out for more money.

Pray America is waking

Judging by the reader comments at the site linked, America is WIDE awake.

It's the MSM and Hollywood that's creating the illusion that it's not, and the left's vote systematic ginning, harvesting, manipulation, and outright fraud regarding votes that puts leftists and liberals in office.

This years theme was disease. So a lot of the “I have a disease” actors won.

Argo, Million Dollar Baby and The Departed were pretty popular.

However, they're not what we would call a blockbuster movie, where the revenue generated is measured in the US$200+ million range in terms of first-run box office revenues for the USA market.
