Thank you for all the replies. I didn’t think this subject would generate so many comments. I understand some of the reasons for tattoos. I just think it is a trend right now that will be a regrettable decision for many in the future. The tattooing of those who survived the holocaust has, in no way, anything to do with my reaction to the tattoos of today. I have seen a picture of a young man who had his entire face tattooed so he now looks like a pig. Why?? On women, particularly white women, it just looks dirty. I don’t look for any length of time at any tattoos. I am just thinking those who have visible ones, not including the Miitary, etc., just want strangers to look at them. And I am sorry this thread devolved into a discussion of ‘class’. I react to piercings the same way as tattoos. But I don’t react to smoking, excess weight, etc, thinking about ‘class’. Piercings and tattoos have always looked ‘rough’ to me. Thanks for the comments, though. Certainly thought provoking.

Oh come on now...you’ve been around FR long enough to know that topics like this bring out the “best” in people here. ;^)

It is enlightening to see how judgemental many are. Especially when one considers the tattooed folks have little to no impact on their lives or do them no harm.

FTR, I don’t have tattoos nor do I plan to get any...although when I was younger I did entertain the idea, however briefly. I was a bit “incapacitated” when I was thinking about it, but the lack of $$ prevented it. I thank my lucky stars that I had drank most of my money away.
