As I posted on another thread, here are my predictions:

J.K. Simmons (Supporting Actor)
Patricia Arquette (Supporting Actress)
Richard Linklater (Director)
Julianne Moore (Actress)
Michael Keaton (Actor)
Birdman (Picture)

I'm sticking to 'em! So far, one for one.

Oh well. 4 for 6. Shoulda went with my gut and not my heart for Best Director and I don't think anyone thought anybody but Keaton was going to win Best Actor. That was the biggest upset of the night (though I would like to see the Hawking film).

“Birdman” won BP.

The Academy is trying to avoid any political fallout by not selecting American Sniper or Selma. Instead, it will likely get it from Liberals (for Selma) and the rest of America (for American Sniper).

Not really. Michael Keaton won the SAG award, but the other guy, who played Hawking won most all of the others.

Some movies have won without their director being nominated. One was Driving Miss Daisy. Granted it is rare, but it happens. I also think the last two years, the best director and best movie were different movies. Maybe the connection is not quite as strong as it used to be. FWIW, I loathed Birdman - easily in my bottom five of loathed movies.

I didn't realize this was FR's 'official' Oscar thread tonight. I searched before the show started, but only found another one that had about 38+ posts. I was wondering where everyone was!!

Oh well... better late than never, I guess. Thank you for this thread, hole_n_one.

Lady Gaga has a really nice voice.

I was actually shocked... I had no idea. Now, if she would just lose those ugly tattoos...

Well I was hoping that maybe just maybe American Sniper would win, even though the odds were against them

Same here. Clint Eastwood did a great job directing "American Sniper", too... just despicable that he wasn't even nominated.

Can you imagine the panty-wadding if Clint had been the presenter and said that?

I remember JK on the HBO drama OZ

As the vile neo-nazi inmate Vernon Schillinger. {{shudder}}

J. K. Simmons is a great actor...

They should start giving out Oscars wearing white briefs now. Might as well. They will never live down Doogie Howser onstage in his underwear. And this is what subs as humor and/or class in Hollywood now?

I got the DVD around Christmas but finally felt like tossing it in on a rainy night here. It is shaping up to be a great serial especially for the effects for its time.

Plus also in regards to the later, in regards to “American Sniper”, with the criminal court trial going on in TX for the double murders of Chris Kyle and his friend, I sense that the Oscars DO NOT want to interfere with the jury outcome of the court trial.

As I have said in another posting, with “AS”, and with the criminal trial going on right now in TX, I also think the Oscars did not want to influnce the jury outcome.

But yes, not suprised that Clint Eastwood did not get the BD honors.

It was a Birdman reference. See that film and you’ll get the joke.

it's award was the BIGGEST take at the box office... where the American public voted, not a bunch of faggots and faggot lovers

So let’s just give the highest grossing films the award every year then? Transformers and Hungers Games films sweep! I don’t think people consider the implications of touting box office like that.
