Desperate bride marries wedding guest instead of groom
Telegraph UK ^ | 2/18/15 | Mark Molloy

A cold-hearted bride made sure her Hindu wedding went ahead when her groom fell ill - by marrying a guest instead.

Jugal Kishore, 25, was rushed to hospital in India after suffering an epileptic seizure on his wedding day, the Times of India reports

He returned to the venue to find his 23-year-old bride, named Indira, had already moved on to another man, says the report.

The woman was apparently angry at not being informed of her partner’s medical condition and announced she would “happily marry someone else at the wedding”.

Step forward Harper Singh, her sister’s brother-in-law, who saved the day in a casual jeans and leather jacket wedding outift to ensure the bride went home happy.

The controversial decision did not go down well with the rejected groom’s family, who reportedly tried to force Indira to change her decision.

The rejected groom also tried to make his would-be bride change her mind, claiming he would not be able to face his friends following the embarrassing episode.

We’ve fallen so far from those days. Although a few short years ago it seems like a hundred years ago.

"I dropped about 25 grand on weddings for each of my daughters."

I think you and I are in different tax brackets....

Reminds me of the song lyrics, “If you can’t be with the one you love, love the one you’re with.”

In India most marriages are arranged and negotiated with a Dowry, and all info must be divulged that would affect children. Obviously his family nor he were honest about his epilepsy. The Bride was NOT in love with him, and the man at the wedding she chose was her sister’s brother in law, whom she probably knew well. He accepted showing they would have chosen each other if they could.

The epileptic seizure was KARMA for the guy who lied, along with his family. Probably a huge Dowry and the woman’s father took it and wouldn’t let her marry the one she wanted. GOD INTERVENED AND SHOWED THE LIE.

I think she was brave to take the opportunity to make her own choice....of course Dowry must be returned.

Just to set things straight about destination weddings. They are actually MUCH cheaper than traditional weddings. Lets say you would like to go to the Caribbean for your honeymoon. If you went to an all inclusive resort like Sandals ... the cost including airfair is about $400/day/person, so roughly $5600 all in for the honeymoon ... which is kind of cheap by todays standards, but lets call that average.

Your average wedding is going to cost between $10-25K, not including the honeymoon. The reception alone is going to cost you $100/guest just for food, not including drinks. The average venue is going to charge you $5-10K to rent the hall. Add flowers, booze, dress, cake, you get the picture.

Now, back to Sandals ... if you agree to spend 7 days at Sandals you get your wedding there for free. They are hoping you will invite your friends (they don’t have to spend more than a day there). It is an all inclusive resort so all the food, the wedding cake, the venue, the officiate and all the booze everyone wants to drink ... all included in the same $5,600 price from before.

So, instead of having a wedding with 100 guests, tell those that really want to come to meet you there. Those that don’t, they can just send the wedding gift ... (which probably would not have covered what you would have dropped on them for food at the reception, so you are plus money right there).

“Your average wedding is going to cost between $10-25K, not including the honeymoon.”

Thanks for breaking it all down, that way.

Ours was an elopement to the courthouse, with two folks as witnesses, and lunch at a nice Italian restaurant.

The circles I move in can’t really afford $10-25K; and even if some of them can stretch it, they Shouldn’t.

But, Sandals does look very nice; I like the commercials, and back in my beach-going days, I may have liked it.

Now I’m an old lady, who likes mountains, instead :-)

That old hippie Eden Ahbez said it best: “The greatest thing you’ll ever learn is just to love and be loved in return.”

I didn’t know that Laz was Hindu and his real name is Harper Singh.

I hope he and his new Bride have a wonderful life together.

True! Hehe, that’s from the song “Nature Boy”. Actually, it’s one of my fav songs. First came to my attention again during 2005 or something, during Australian Idol, when this contestant sang it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hfdN3wuPTdE — I liked George Benson’s Jazz rendition of it too. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hSdUbrha98g — I’m partial to Jazz in general.

I mainly know it from Nat King Cole, but a local channel was trying to push this version about ten years ago. It’s not bad, but her voice is a little . . . odd? Haha.

Lol.. it’s odd, and think must be the intonation (maybe accent)? I prefer the Aussie youtube version for an alternative Noobie to singing the song ... But, I do like Nat King Cole one too, such a legend :)

You are right; she was deceived by him concerning a serious health issue. I would have been upset, too. Not sure I would marry someone else on the spur of the moment, though! But this is India, not America.
