A restored and modernized Craftsman home built in 1904 for the widow of a U.S. president is up for sale in South Pasadena.
The 1,526-square-foot Chalet Style Garfield House, listed at just under $3 million, built by Greene & Greene for Lucretia Garfield, widow of assassinated President James A. Garfield.
The 5-bedroom, 5-bathroom home, a South Pasadena Cultural Heritage Landmark, was renovated and restored by its current owner, who added a basement recording studio and media center, according to the listing agent, Kevin Bourland of Aaroe Estates.

1,500 sq ft and 5 bedrooms?
Must have an outhouse in the backyard and Hibachi for grilling, on the porch...cuz there ain’t no room for any of those things in a house designed like that...
No outhouse probably — but probably also not a lot of sinks and toilets either.
Charles Guiteau is listed as his assassin but a good case can be made that it was Dr. Doctor Bliss that killed him.
Here is the listing and pics of the home. I got this in an email a few days ago.

Typical reporting. The added on basement is 1526 sq ft., not the whole house.
Landmark house designed by architects who practically defined Craftsman, the west coast iteration at least. Pasadena has some really beautiful areas.
And another one for sale.

We built and live in our Craftsman/Bungalow home. Wife is an architect and I am also a GC. : )
and the main floor plans show it as 4426 ft2.
That is a lovely home. It seems to be very comfortable, but not ostentatious.
Went back and looked at the picture and thought it looked larger than 1500.
Thnx
Garfield Ping!
I think it said that the 1500 was added space in the basement or something, the pix showed a much larger home than 1500. Great house, looks very comfortable and inviting in the pictures, and not cramped at all, though has a few cozy areas.
WSe always loved that stretch, because it was so "un-California".
