Canaccord Genuitys Mike Walkley this morning ... writes that his assessment of vendor data in smartphones suggests, whose shares he rates a Buy, captured 93% of industry profits in Q4 ... while Samsung Electronics has a minority of profit and all others operate at no profit or at a negative margin

“And they do the same for every phone in their inventory. We are comparing Oranges to oranges.”
No. We are commenting that you, the educated economist, did not consider this cost when you gave your costs of owning a cell phone.
“The point is that unique among cellular phones, two or even four year old iPhones can be sold for much more than the costs of upgrading to the latest models. “
LOL. You are really jumping the shark with that. And you claim to be an educated economist. Basic law of economics. People don’t pay more for less.
OOPS. I should have said non-apple buyers don’t pay more for less.
“The point is that unique among cellular phones, two or even four year old iPhones can be sold for much more than the costs of upgrading to the latest models. “
If you can get a new phone for less than the cost of an old used one, why the heck would anyone buy an old phone?
No response from Swordmaker. Maybe he missed my post.
Probably because he realizes he bloviated himself into a corner again.
WOW! I'm so not impressed by your list of specs. TexasGator specs mean nothing. Especially if those specs degrade performance like slowing video by not having the graphics capacity to move the number of pixels around efficiently. The note video stutters and spends a lot of time buffering.
If you are enamored of a fast quad core processor. But Apple's second generation 64bit dual core slower optimized processor simply blows the doors off the Samsung Note in all Geek Bench scores save one, the multicore test, and even there it's within 3% of the performance of the Quadcore. On all the others its at least TWICE as fast as the Samsung's Note 4! Sorry! efficiency trumps specs. BZZZT!
Samsung's Note 4 is one of the reasons for Samsung's drop in market share. It's not selling well at all.
If it’s new and it’s less somewhere, I’ll look around for that. I’ve already seen that new can vary quite a bit. I just won’t be comparing “new” price to garage sale price ... LOL ... it’s gotta be like for like.
If it’s used, forget about it. It’s basically not worth it, and that’s from my own experience (from past experiences). It’s always junk.
But, when you’ve described a few things, you’ve simply described what I do with new things I buy. You’ve said you shop around for the best price. That’s what I do, but not comparing “new to used” ... it would be “new to new”.
As far as “services” are concerned, a “service” is basically always “new” ... the only thing you have to watch out for there ... is if a sale price has actually removed some of the service so you’re not getting the same level of service for a reduced price. But then, some people don’t care about that.
One example of “service” was an Amtrak ride I took a few years back, from Portland, OR to Dallas, TX. I wanted a two bed sleeper on one way, and then a four-bed sleeper on the return, with an internal shower. Now, by shopping and varying the dates from one week to the next, picking various days, I was able to save over $1,000. It was all done online, and just varying the dates and days. I found out later that you can get the discounts when they’re trying to fill up a new car they’re adding on, because the volume picks up. They want full sleeper cars, so they’ll discount the last few.
But you see, that’s not what I was talking about in not buying “used” stuff, because that is really JUNK.
I’ve done the same, as I did with Amtrak, on some flights in the past. Pick far enough out, vary the days and you’ll find a better deal.
SO ... the issue here is not about “how to save money” on stuff you buy ... the issue that this thread is about was that iPhone and iPad being good deals, because they are excellent products, they are well-constructed (I’ve always found Apple products to be), they work well, have an excellent UI (the best around) have good infrastructure to go along with their products, and have the best customer service and guarantees around. You get action with their customer service, by walking into the store, going to the phone or online with chat. They do it the best on customer service! And as was pointed out before, they have higher resale values than other comparable products on the market. That’s value that I appreciate, along with something that is extremely usable, plus a joy to use. And that is what THIS CONSUMER LIKES!
Oh, you get your cell phone service for free. Got it.
Your point is twaddle, and argumentative, pointless.
It does still work as a phone if I wanted it to. . . But not with the new features offered by the carrier or the 3G or 4G networks. I suppose you still use your analog TV sets. How's your buggy whip doing on getting your car to go faster?
Check that out ... I don’t think it will work ... :-) ...
Its part of the Total Cost of Ownership. Its the part you left out.
You are offended by people are smarter than you, aren't you? People who are educated and know more than you offend you so you have to insult them and denigrate their education. . . and ignore the facts that deny your stupidity, as you ignore the facts that right in front of your face.
You think everybody should do what you do. Sorry the world is not made up of Mad Dawgg's and if everyone were out there competing with you for your "bargains" they wouldn't exist for you. That's the law of supply and demand at work. Again an educated Economist telling how the real world works.
You prefer to be a crude rude skunk, insulting people. Hiding behind a computer, saying things that would get you a broken nose in person. You sir, are a cowardly bully. . . Ignorant and arrogant in your ignorance. I pity you.
We have several around the house AND they can hook up to our internet media system. See you can still watch TV on them. If of course you are smart enough to use them. Maybe if you get someone who is smarter than your average economics degree holder to show you how. Check the AV club at your local Jr. High. hahahah
hmmm.
The 6Plus framerates are HAFT that of the 5S!
Apple progress?
Fine, I'll take you up on that. How are YOU going to handle the balance of the payments?
“The 6Plus framerates are HALF that of the 5S!”
“Fine, I’ll take you up on that. How are YOU going to handle the balance of the payments”
You mean the payments that you left out in your original analysis on the cost of your iPhones?
Sparky you pulled the economics card out. If you are going to try "Appeal to Authority" as your basis for proving a point then you should know when you are proven wrong (yet again) you get it spiked back in your face.
You tried to play Sparky Professor with your economics Total Cost of Ownership ploy. It didn't work. live by claiming an Economics Degree trumps fact, Die by it.
What balance of payments?
“Apart from this anomaly, the Galaxy Note 4 does show a strong performance, but overall no single device manages to shine. Improved Galaxy Note 4 benchmarks will be carried out once the device becomes available here in the U.S on the 17th.
