Word For The Day, Wednesday, January 28, 2015-- Baedeker
In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
Baedeker [bey-di-ker]or [bay-di-ker]
noun
1. Karl, 180159, German publisher, notably of guidebooks for travelers.
2. any of the series of guidebooks for travelers issued by the him or his successors.
3. any guidebook, pamphlet, or the like, containing information useful to travelers: a Baedeker to the restaurants of the region.
Origin: "travel guide," 1863, from German printer and bookseller Karl Baedeker (1801-1859) whose popular travel guides began the custom of rating places with one to four stars. The Baedeker raids by the Luftwaffe in April and May 1942 targeted British cultural and historical sites.
Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.
With my complexion, of course. ;-)
pasty as a milkmaid ; )
Apparently, Auschwitz wasn’t on the Presidential baedeker of significant places to visit this year by Obama & his troupe of bad actors

Keep the poems coming, Ti.
I used Rick Steves in Europe as well. Not that there’s anything wrong with that. :)

The differences between Scott Walker and Barack Obama would fill many a Baedeker.
A+++
The 70th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz isn’t of the same order of magnitude as the funeral of Mike Brown. In Obama math, one dead Black thug is more important than a million dead Jews. And one deserter is worth five hardened Jihadis.

Everyone’s talking about this.
yes I read Jonah and Kevin Williamson on it.
I saw a lot of Twitter commentary on it, but just read the actual it now.
yes, thanks for posting it bc I had done the same. I am not familiar with Chait, are you? heard the name but can’t place him.
btw the misspelling of Crosby’s name on that program was hilarious. paula’s sister and BIL were at the game and paula was offering to buy the program from her to have proof his name is really Sindey! LOL!
happy bday to your daughter!
A++++
Good article. And congrats for the birthday girl.
I know he’s had a few blog-exchange scuffles with Jonah in the past, but don’t know much else.
I view this article as a good first step. He is still trying to distance liberals from leftists, but at least he has identified the problem fairly well. Nothing conservatives haven’t been talking about for ages.
never mind, missed that it was yesterday’s thread.
Her favorite composer is Chopin, followed by Tchaikovsky. I love Mozart’s work and will be sure to tell her when I pick her up in an hour.
