Being the ‘grey man’ is not the quarters you spend, but asn entire new way of thinking!

It has been drummed into some of us, for most of our lives, that clothes make the person. Whether that be dressed in Brooks Brothers, or some named dressmaker, the outfit was designed to call attention to it, and you, inside of it.

The grey man is the guy or gal that, like the premise in the first ‘Men in Black’, i.e., you are there, but NOT noticed. You do NOT draw attention to yourself, which is a far step away from ‘being yourself, but wearing bell bottoms like everybody else’. Today’s office wear, sans blizzard, has come down to chinos and a polo shirt. Wear the right combination, walk into a big box store, and you might be asked about a product, no? Some polos have office or corporate logos meant to be noticed. So, let’s try something, and see what you think. A pair of inexpensive slacks and a non-logo, neutral color polo shirt, with a comfortable pair of black shoes, shined or not. A light ‘baseball’ jacvket, or a simple haha, grey sweatshirt with a hood, and a non-descript, no logo, neutral color baseball hat. Most food servers not working in burger joints wear what? White shirrts and black slacks. What’s one more? While we are getting ‘un-noticed’, fellow veterans, no field jackets, no GI hats, no NRA hats or clothing, or anything ‘camo’! Remember, the feds already are target shooting at targets of field jacketed folks! The trick is to NOT be remembered, or singled out. Those that ‘need pockets’, make the mistake of wearing vests. BZZZ! Vests mean you carry a lot of stuff, or, you just might be a CCW person, and you have just been noticed!

Now, for more of the grey man principles, I ask you:
What do you ‘XXX’, that you do because it is how you define yourself, versus that struggle of being like everybody else? That includes your shopping, your demeanor, everything!

Good luck!

Strange weather patterns, really almost sounds leftish, this is the same weather we had in the 1970’s it is all part of the sun spot cycle combined with earth wobble and solar system cycles why else do we have ice ages and little ice ages. People need to read some geology and astronomy books. It's not man and its not the end times, is just the same of stuff.

I’ve been saving change for the last 30 years (It has been my extreme safety net) so I’m good on that.

“Also, take time to get to know your surroundings. If you think you’re being followed, know how to get back to your base while leading the follower on a wild goose chase”

Or just shoot them with a suppressed weapon and then go back to base.

Doesn’t that sound terrible? It is and that’s what you need to think about if things get really bad it is going to be terrible and you will have to make sure nobody follows you home. If the grid goes down things are going to be very very bad. Lets just hope it does not happen.

(And of course to buy enough time for all the zombies to devour one another)

The real question is: "how long will it take for the zombies to run their course if SHTF?" I'm guessing weeks for the vast majority of those who go feral. Perhaps the most successful/violent/aggressive of the zombies might last up to 2 or 3 months, but I find it hard to imagine that any would last longer. They may find protein in targeting emaciated urban survivors, but even in the suburbs they will find too little to eat and too little fuel to get far from the cities across roads full of abandoned vehicles. I expect barter to resume as a risky option within months, and barter with organized markets within a year, probably sooner.

Sounds like my wardrobe.

Same here - Comfortably "broke-in" jeans and T-shirts and sneakers that range from "gonna use one last time on a dirty job" to "less than a year old dressy occasions".

Not sure using change for purchases will protect anyone - those that will rob/kill you for ten bucks will do the same for ten cents if it increases what they have. Being well armed and situationally aware while limiting exposure is probably the best bet. Having a partner so you can watch each other's backs would also be handy.

The change tactic doesn’t work because you won’t carry enough. $48 in quarters for gas? Not.

“”You only need to store away enough to buy yourself time to adapt to the new reality””

That could be forever. At my age, at least until the end of my life....I can’t see the supplies lasting as we won’t recover from an EMP..no matter what or how much we stock....

“”This is why Islam is superior, they use rocks and their hands for TP. Those will work even after EMP!””

Well, I was raised on a farm - back in the day - and we did use pages from catalogs....and I don’t need to say it was OUTSIDE, do I? Served two purposes - sit and leaf through the catalog and~~~~~~~~~~~Hope that’s not shocking for some of you.

In old Japan, there were people called ninjas. Unlike Hollywood, they did NOT wear black pajamas to sneak into the enemy castle. They would most likely appear as a peasant selling a load of veggies. The way to be invisible is to act and dress in a way that you will not be noticed, will not stand out, and will not be perceived as somebody worth robbing.

“Lights Out!” is a pretty good read, too.

Thanks. I’m dumb enough to check it out in the library so I can be scared some more... Thanks a lot - HA! Wonder why I never learn.

Adapting is not necessarily a physical process. It could involve giving yourself the opportunity to team with others. I’m sure you aren’t any more challenged than I am, but I will still be adapting.

“end of life” even at our advanced age is not predictable.

I can not begin to know how much to stock!

End of life might be when I run out and have to leave a safe area.
