The frequency the radio operates on is not relevant. It is the electronics inside and their vulnerability to the zap. Your toaster, if digitally controlled like mine, is dead, and it sure does not operate on any RF frequency.

The transistor and microprocessor explosion that dominates equipment in everyday life is the issue, and just how much they will be affected, which no one really knows.

Most of the EMP energy is below 100 Mc (middle of the FM band). Some things will survive, it is not the 800 pound gorilla that it is made out to be, more like a 500 pound one. Most likely, your transistor radio will still work and car will start, the real mcguffin is the power grid itself. Lotsa luck in getting more gas out of the pump unless you have a hand pump, a 12 volt pump or a generator. A lot of electronics, even in cars, are designed to survive in a high RF environment and have shielding to some degree themselves as well as the car body. I would be cautious in protecting some stuff by unplugging it and disconnecting the antenna though. I’m just saying that although in some ways EMP is a threat, there is a lot of malarky about it out there as well.

Ohio has law on books, where the state police can call travel ban.
They do not fine they arrest.

I wrk in distribution field, a real PIA when Ohio pulls this for storms.

I have had to deal with it 3 times in 10yrs.

Guy in Ohio that explained to me , said shelter in place wherever you were at time ban was called. I thought he was exagerrating, found out later he was not.

Opened my eyes a littlle wider to govt over reach

“And as one neighbor we met said, he has enough ammunition to defend the hollow if need be.”

If your only plan is to defend then you lost the battle before it even begins. You can bunker down but that itself leaves you very vulnerable, a few well placed shots and you’re there for the duration, it’s amazing what a couple of people with rifles can do. Transformers, propane tanks, water tanks and vehicles are easy to take out. Once that’s done your not going anywhere, you can’t open a door or look out a window. Tons of ammo doesn’t change the fact that your screwed.

LOL - love it, but why the bias against the not so “gently used?” They might be a bit tougher and better prepared for SHTF...therefore I declare my place in Michigan a suitable stop for those you are rejecting!

Been in Ohio going on 8 years now - drove despite - never stopped or heard of anyone stopped. Interesting to hear. Which counties/roads were you dealing with?

Correct. The best place to be is nowhere anyone wants to be or can see.
A hiker shelter on the Appalachian Trail is about as anonymous as it comes.

"...Men with wives and children to provide for will be at a great disadvantage..."

This troubles me greatly. I have a wife and small child. I would kill to protect them. I seek to add others to my group in order to improve our survival odds.

However, when I talk to other dads in my social circle about longer-term emergency planning (almost always using hurricanes as an opening), they give a unicorns-and-rainbows response. It almost hurts them to disuss it.

They simply do not want to plan for a time without rule of law. They cannot or will not envision a world where their loved ones are at risk and they must actually defend them.

I consider that an abrogation of your duties as a parent and a husband.

It is widely accepted that a lone person or family cannot defend itself in a WROL scenario. You must be part of a group, plain and simple.

Why? Because you need to sleep and eat and poop, and while you re doing this another person must be on alert and preferably on patrol.

A lesson hammered into me from reading SHTF stories is that pure defense is merely slow suicide; there must be not only defenses in place (like foxholes and other shooting positions) but roving patrols farther out to interdict and identify threats BEFORE they get to your doorstep.

are these enforceable bans? or are they similar to evacuation zones where people can decide they want to stay and take a chance?
