“And as one neighbor we met said, he has enough ammunition to defend the hollow if need be.”

If your only plan is to defend then you lost the battle before it even begins. You can bunker down but that itself leaves you very vulnerable, a few well placed shots and you’re there for the duration, it’s amazing what a couple of people with rifles can do. Transformers, propane tanks, water tanks and vehicles are easy to take out. Once that’s done your not going anywhere, you can’t open a door or look out a window. Tons of ammo doesn’t change the fact that your screwed.

Correct. The best place to be is nowhere anyone wants to be or can see.
A hiker shelter on the Appalachian Trail is about as anonymous as it comes.

It is widely accepted that a lone person or family cannot defend itself in a WROL scenario. You must be part of a group, plain and simple.

Why? Because you need to sleep and eat and poop, and while you re doing this another person must be on alert and preferably on patrol.

A lesson hammered into me from reading SHTF stories is that pure defense is merely slow suicide; there must be not only defenses in place (like foxholes and other shooting positions) but roving patrols farther out to interdict and identify threats BEFORE they get to your doorstep.

Wow, what total pessimism. You know nothing about me, my compound, my plans - but jump in to tell me that no matter what my plans are - they are wrong. Even when you have no clue what they are. It’s funny, actually.

THIS is why preppers have such a bad reputation. The negativity and preppier-than-thou attitude.

I notice that even here on FR - many of the threads are very helpful, but there are those folks that have to diminish what everyone else has done. Goes along with the anonymity and a way to feel bigger than one really is, I suppose. It happens on all the threads. I suppose you are one of those that never lost money in any investment either, LOL.

I’m not going to waste time telling you ALL my plans - nobody but my husband knows everything.

But we do back a national forest and have access to all those thousands of acres, if need be.

Of course, you have a bunker in the middle of forest that no man has ever stepped foot into. Or something similar.
