(CBS SF) — A new study finds kids are gobbling up pizza at an alarming rate.

The Journal of Pediatrics study found nearly a quarter of all American kids are eating pizza on any given day and that pizza makes up nearly a quarter of their calories.

The study found kids and teens are getting more calories from pizza than anything else they eat — besides dessert.

For many, it’s a wake-up call to reevaluate how parents feed their kids.

Shakey’s only has about 50 or so stores left in the US, mostly in CA. On the east coast only two remain one in Homestead FL and one in Auburn AL. Some of the family were discussing them recently and I did an internet search to see what had happened to them. We used to go to the one at Cocoa Beach every summer when I was growing up.

Will these F'king busy bodies please stop telling what is bad for us and our kids?? We make homemade pizzas with tomato sauce, fresh veggies and flour. We make meat pizzas and even seafood pizzas.

Hey, busybodies, should we just feed our kids only fruits and veggies? Sorry, you can KMA...

I really would like it if we took the tact of “My Body My Choice” - ie their argument for everything they want to do to themselves - and hijack it for letting people decide what they want to put in their bodies for food, not some libtard egghead who gets to eat whatever they want, but tells others they believe are “beneath them” what they MUST eat and dictate narrow choices nobody wants. These idiots don’t eat what they force people to choose from.

and they (libtard schools/gubmint) aren’t feeding them organic fruits and veggies, they are feeding them ones that have been sprayed with pesticides and the like, so it’s not even like they’re the best fruits and veggies they can get, they are happy to give the proletariats’ kids the lesser stuff.

We have pizza every Friday night. We make it from scratch. The kids have fun helping and it only costs a couple bucks at most for three pizzas. It is also way better than what we could get at most any pizza parlor.

Made a couple deep dish pizzas last Friday. They where awesome.

pizza when not the cheap brands are fairly healthy. mozzarella chees, tomato sauce. if you put a lot of vegies on it and meat it has everything you need on a piece of bread.

Fully 1/3rd of all calories consumed in a day are liquids.

That being said, Pizza is good in moderation. It contains many food groups. All food is good in moderation if you are NOT allergic to it.

Hey, doc, that fish oil you just said to take is from Sea fish, from the worst parts of sea food available..Guess what I’m allergic to sea food. KEEP it. And keep your dangerous drugs too. I may be 66 but, I have GOOGLE to check the killer crap drugs you prescribe.

We make homemade pizzas

Homemade pizza, made with leftover homemade spaghetti sauce, is one of the favorites in our house. I think we look forward to it more than the cook-all-day-and-make-the-house-smell-great spaghetti.

About the only thing that's unhealthy in the pizza is the sausage that's in the sauce. Otherwise, it's low salt, and has lots of protein, dairy and vegetables.

And the garlic I put in is good for grown-ups blood pressure. :-)

The Nanny State knows few boundaries.
