In the movie, he just comes off as a petty and demanding micro-manager that contributes mostly trivial "cheesy" ideas to the product after all the real work has been mostly accomplished by others.

By the way, Diogenes, when YOU have steered a company from near bankruptcy to the largest corporation in the world in just ten years, get back to us with your criticisms of the "genius" of Steve Jobs. . . they we MIGHT give you some gravitas to you arguments that he did not contribute anything or did not accomplish anything. . . and that his contributions were "trivial cheesy ideas" to the product after the real work had been mostly accomplished by others." Get cracking on building your world changing organizations.

By the way, i must be the you refer to as "he who is not a Dentist," but I have ALSO been a CEO. . . and I am willing to bet you have not been anything of the kind.

In our modern world Steve Jobs was like Julius Caesar was in the ancient world, "Why, man, he doth bestride the narrow world Like a Colossus, and we petty men Walk under his huge legs and peep about To find ourselves dishonourable graves." and you, Diogenes, are certainly one of those petty men, who chooses to denigrate the man when he is dead.

Thanks. I honestly did not know that.

The actual invention of Nikola Tesla was not the generator. . . that was around for a while. It was the invention of a working generator, transmission, transformers, and MOTORS. . . Hippolyte Pixii invented the rotating magnetic field that generated the Alternating current. . . but did nothing with it. He made the observation. He found the SCIENCE, but not the technology. Tesla invented the TECHNOLOGY that made it useful.

Similarly, Edison did not invent the electric light, nor even the electric light bulb. There were quite a few of those before Thomas Edison found a practical one. Electric arc lights were in existence for a long time, at least since 1850. . . and light bulbs in vacuum were also in existence that for years before Edison went to work on them. . . but the filament material was the problem. Edison tried over 6,000 types of carbon sources before finding one that was consistent and lasted longer than a few hours. He was not even the first to patent an electric carbon filament light bulb. Swan in the UK did that. . . 18 years before Edison. . . but his bulb only lasted less than a day before burning out. Edison like Tesla created the TECHNOLOGY that made it work.

In many ways, Thomas Edison was like Steve Jobs. . . he brought people together and gave them instructions on what he wanted and gave them the resources to make it happen.

Even my own Great, great, great Grandfather Alexander Graham Bell probably did not invent the telephone (there's some good evidence he stole it from Elisha Gray). . . but under today's standard of first to demonstrate, Bell could still be considered the inventor, no matter if he stole it or not. I think he did steal it. . . even if he is my ancestor. However, Bell did not show much in the way of flashes of inspiration later in life, instead sponsoring other inventors with his money and resources. . . even, apparently, eventually even bringing Gray into the Bell system.

This will be a different trade off. And Android has already set itself up to lose by decreasing SD card functionality.

Google is gambling on that trade-off getting them more Enterprise attention. The SD card's vulnerability to theft and lack of user controls was a major stumbling block for serious Enterprise adoption. It was just too easy for a rival to remove an SD card, replace it with a malware infected card, or copy the data off an SD card and replace it, or just steal it. Data could be copied from computers with ease with SD cards in SD card readers, transferred to Phones, and then stolen direct from servers. Not good. Removing the capability obviates that potential.

Yes, Jobs, upon his last return to Apple, eliminated some program for employee charitable giving.

Janet Reno went after Microsoft for something or another, and previously, their lobbying effort was pretty small, and the talk was that it was to spur MS to hire lobbyists, aka former congresscritters and other political hacks.

Not really up on what political contributions were personally or corporate, historically or currently.

e-Peat and the like are, in my mind, just shakedowns, appealing to the low information consumer, and just another economic barrier to innovation to protect big corporations from startups like Apple once was.

Protect the environment? There's reality, and then there's the "religious" view. A presentation years ago by a guy from Polaroid stated obvious that if you don't produce hazardous waste, you don't have to dispose of it.

New product development may have to be "less clean" in the beginning. That, the original ketchup squeeze bottle was made from something like seven different plastic layers that didn't recycle well, if at all. (I generally prefer glass over plastic for food, but plastic has its places and uses)

Likewise, finding the most practical energy efficient way to operate is also obvious, but flies in the face of the "environmental religion" on so many levels. Electric cars have a very large energy footprint. Biodiesel costs more for less energy, not to mention the extra energy costs hauling around less efficient fuel, and more fueling stops.

As for my "diverting funds", isn't Algor still on the board of Apple? I'd bet his pet scams are getting Apple money now.

“What about having the king of global warming scam artists on the board of directors?”

They probably pay him to stay away and shut up!

The most amazing thing happened after Steve Jobs offered Al Gore a position on the Apple Board of Directors. Prior to that, Apple was constantly under attack by Greenpeace and other "Green" organizations for "Not doing enough" for ecology and green efforts. Although Apple was at the head of the industry in recyclable products and non-toxics in Apple products they were the BIG name to use in headlines in FUD articles for ECO and GREEN attacks from Greenpeace. As soon as Gore was on the board, all of that went away! Apple was no longer fighting the hydra of eco attacks every time they turned around. . . and Al Gore does essentially nothing. He was like a magic talisman against the Greenies. They turned their attention elsewhere.

“MAPS” ... huh? I had heard that ICD-10 was expanded dramatically ... :-) ...

Yeah, in October they went from around 17,000 diagnostic codes to over 155,000. They forgot that one. So my girlfriend and I have prepared that one for the inevitable addenda when they add more. We have another one they forgot as well. . . this one explains EVERYTHING about Liberals.

321.0 SPLAT Liberal Cerebral Defenestration (LCD) or Liberal Acquired Brain Absence (LABA), Complete loss of rationality, cognition, and cerebration due to indiscriminately keeping one's mind so far open that the brain falls out. First and subsequent encounters.

As you walk around the hallowed halls of Congress. . . especially in the Democrat and Republican Leadership Caucuses, if you listen carefully, you can hear the sounds of the sufferers. . . splat. . . splat, splat. . . splat. . . the soft sound of brains hitting the floor. SPLAT! Oh, that one was close!

Here is a re-post of an article that was posted on FreeRepublic on the upcoming event:

Code Chaos Another nightmare for doctors, courtesy of the federal government

The Weekly Standard ^ | 3/7/14 | STEPHEN F. HAYES

Posted on March 7, 2014 at 8:39:15 PM PST

Ever considered suicide by jellyfish? Have you ended up in the hospital after being injured during the forced landing of your spacecraft? Or been hurt when you were sucked into the engine of an airplane or when your horse-drawn carriage collided with a trolley?

Chances are slim.

But should any of these unfortunate injuries befall you after October 1, 2014, your doctor, courtesy of the federal government, will have a code to record it. On that date, the United States is scheduled to implement a new system for recording injuries, medical diagnoses, and inpatient procedures called ICD-10—the 10th version of the International Classification of Diseases propagated by the World Health Organization in Geneva, Switzerland. So these exotic injuries, codeless for so many years, will henceforth be known, respectively, as

The coming changes are vast. The number of codes will explode—from 17,000 under the current system to 155,000 under the new one, according to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).

The transition to ICD-10 was planned long before Congress passed the Affordable Care Act in 2010. But Obama administration officials say it is a critical part of the coming reforms. “ICD-10 is the foundation for health care reform,” said Jeff Hinson, a CMS regional administrator, in a conference call about ICD-10 for providers in Colorado

. . .

Boynton’s “personal favorite” is code V9027XA: “Drowning and submersion due to falling or jumping from burning water-skis, initial encounter.”

Members of FreeRepublic, waxing creative, decided to add to the ICD-10 some of their own codes:

Al Gore is still on Apple's Board. I would not say his "pet scams" are getting Apple any money. Apple has pretty much made all of their US facilities 100% self-powered by either solar or natural gas from the area and actually sell surplus power back onto the grid. The new headquarters building will also be 100% off the grid. . . Apple's total expenditure on such projects in 2012 was under $300 million. . . and eliminated power bills almost twice that. They are paying for themselves. I would assume that Apple IS taking advantage of the tax credits that are available under Federal Tax laws.

No one wears watches anymore. That iWatch thing is gonna be a total flop.

I have nothing against Apple. We have several iPads in our home, a 27in iMac(my favorite machine), and a couple of iPhones. I just call things the way I see them. They make wonderful products, but I don’t believe they are innovating anything new and groundbreaking at the moment.

In a device as small and with as little memory as a phone or tablet, the tradeoff should have been addressed by simply marketing cardless units to businesses where security outweighs performance needs.

One size fits all crippling of their technology abdicates marketshare.

I never said there was no reason for what they did. I pointed out that power users will not tolerate it if there are other options. Intel is are out to deliver as big an example of other options as you can get: the full windows system.

Were I in manufacturing, I would be looking to build dyes capable of cranking out high performance 500gb to 2tb microSD cards because I think there is about to be an expanding market for them even if priced exorbitantly.

Apple software and computers just work.

You do not have to fix and repair it every other day like the Microsoft garbage that’s full of security holes, viruses, Trojans, spyware and jacked up Registries. How much time and money is lost repairing your computer every other day???

Apple is about to roll out their watch. Where is Microsoft’s watch?

What about that Microsoft phone? How are sales?

What about Microsoft’s Surface? I don’t hear too much about that either. Perhaps it’s the bright colors that appeal to little children, much like crayons, but has no appeal to serious computer users.

Apple, Amazon and Google are all spanking Microsoft.

In all fairness, the Microsoft Surface 3 is making a fair showing. They sold approximately 970,000 last year, breaking $1.4 Billion. This was touted as a "Huge success." On the other hand, Apple sold 2.6 million MacBook Air's in the last quarter and 12.4 million iPads.

I have calm discussions.

Just not with idiots like you, or ‘He who is not a Dentist’ -

You are Sad Sacks -

How is it that a poster can avail themselves as a buyer and prometer of a company’s products - - - only to be assailed by the ‘fan boys of said company?

Only in an Apple Universe...

You make Liberals seem fuzzy-nice...Got it SWORD SWALLOWER?
