Monday is Martin Luther King Jr. Day and given the context, it is an interesting moment to ask whether it really matters that the Motion Picture academy failed to nominate the black director and the black lead actor of Selma, the King biopic, for Oscars.
The Oakland Tribune went there and then some on Friday, topping its article about the awards with the headline, And the Oscar for the best Caucasian goes to ...
While the snubs may sting and point toward a broader blindness, its still more important in the long run that a young female black director received the backing of a Hollywood studio and made an important film. Long after the last blubbering actor has been played off the stage while thanking his or her makeup assistant at the Oscars, we will still have Selma.

Technically, shouldn’t that be “the struggle”, in quotation marks? It implies that “the struggle” is a matter of opinion, not an axiom.

Oh, I’d bet money on that.
The crazy thing is, it will make some whiteys hate whitey. That just serves to illustrate the lunacy of the world we’re living in.

Probably. I was just doing stream-of-consciousness. I wasn’t even sure struggle was the right word.

The last movie I saw, also with a g/daughter, was Shrek, don't know if I spelled that right. First thing I did when it started was remove my hearing aids, it was still too loud. I do that when I use a chain saw too. Got us each a box of pop corn and a soft drink, about $17. They are refillable grandpa. Sorry, I can't eat $17 worth of pop corn.

I don’t know, does this “Selma” movie suck? Is it a good movie? Never heard of it, but from title alone, I’m certain that I won’t want to see it.
