Lapel camera footage shots Albuquerque police officers shooting and killing John Edward Okeefe on Jan. 13, 2015.

3:25 minute footage from officer's lapel cam. Story is that a burglary suspect was spotted running in an alley adjacent to San Mateo Blvd. in ABQ. Police ordered him to stop and instead suspect shot at officers. Officers returned fire and killed him. The officer with the lapel cam is clearly distressed at having had to fire. Suspect was wearing a bullet proof vest and fired a revolver both stolen from the home of a Bernalillo County Sheriff's deputy.

The officers who responded had arrest complaints and the suspect killed has a long criminal record.

The stolen gun was a Ruger Vaquero in .45 Colt. Not the prime item for getting into a gunfight with police.

Some of the SASS shooter at Founder’s Ranch (about 6 miles from me) could have run it effectively though.

Back in the late 80’s a couple highly ranked SASS shooters did a charity shoot against the Stockton PD in California using SAA Colts, Winchester 1873’s, and Winchester 1897’s.

And cleaned their clocks.

But it did record shots being fired prior to the officer with the video camera employing his firearm.

Report names New Mexico second-most-dangerous state [excerpted]

A new report from 24/7 Wall Street, a popular market-watching website, names New Mexico as the second-most-dangerous state.

The study, which was also published by USA Today, draws on the most recently released crime data from the FBI, which tracks crime statistics in 2013.

The report found that nationwide, 368 violent crimes were reported for every 100,000 people. New Mexico is well above the average, with nearly 597 violent crimes for every 100,000 people.

Albuquerque's crime rate was even higher than the state as a whole, with about 775 violent crimes per 100,000 residents in 2013 — more than double the national rate.

New Mexico also saw the largest growth in violent crime from the previous year, with a 6.6 percent rise in violent crime since 2012. The national trend ran in the opposite direction, with violent crime falling by 4.4 percent nationwide since 2012.

and the complaint about the camera angle. I guess some think this is a spectator sport with a director yelling “cut, dammit get that camera right, OK bad guy you can start shooting again”..... I know you didn't post that but it won't let me reply to that post.

Cameras are fine as long as they do not get in the way of anything they officer has to do. This camera clearly shows that the idiot, moron, thug, criminal tried to kill the officer by shooting at him... Anything past that observation is pure diversionary BS meant to distract from that point. It seems like to me that this camera did everything that was necessary to establish that the stupid criminal caused his own death.

I think there should be a law that all body-cam footage be directed by James Cameron. That will solve the problem.

I'd prefer Ridley Scott, that way you'll never know what the footage was supposed to show until the director's cut is released 20 years later.
