CAIRO Standing up to the spread of Islamophobia campaigns, a leading US civil rights organization has launched two of its educational campaigns in response to the current debate about Islam and free speech in the wake of the recent Charlie Hebdo attacks.
"There are specific and clear verses in the Quran that instruct Muslims to respond peacefully and with prayer to insults and mockery," Nihad Awad, National Executive Director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), said in a statement obtained by OnIslam.net.
"Free speech is at the core of Islamic beliefs."
The Washington-based civil rights group says its research shows a correlation between increasing knowledge of Islam and decreasing anti-Muslim prejudice.
In a bid to spread true information about Islam, CAIR has launched its "Share the Quran" campaign to enhance understanding of Islam through the free distribution of copies of the Quran to Americans of other faiths who request a copy.

Oh yes, Christ overturned tables and ran money changers out of the temple.... hat is definitely the same as mass slaughter of innocents in the Muslim religion...
NOT
Yeah, I always love that ‘invalid’ statement....then you ask the silly question....since 95-percent of the Islamic population IS NOT Arab and can’t read Arab....they can’t possible get the ‘jest’ of the religion...now can they? It’s the silliest argument that any idiot could say.
My wife and I took a trip to Turkey a few years ago (I hadn't yet met her when I was teaching there). We took a guided tour of Istanbul. I heard the guide mention that he had memorized the Koran in Arabic, a language he didn't speak. In effect he had memorized what amounted to nonsense syllables, since he didn't understand them. His Turkish language version was not "official."
I don’t know enough about the other languages. Jews for instance learn Hebrew in temple schools as children.
I wonder if it’s the same for Muslims.
