I know, dogs are great. Make life bearable.
Yep and they are always happy to see you. I tell her shes a bad dog and she smiles at me, which of course makes me laugh.
Love labs. Don’t have one right now, but I’ve had some amazing labs in my life.

We took a trip to a tiny Caribbean island where everyone gets around via golf cart. We had our golf cart for the week and went into the tiny town which was on the other side of the bay. Tooled around in some shops and came out and there was a dog sitting in our cart. Went back into the shop and said......there’s a dog in our cart. Storekeeper said.....yeah that’s Dogie. He swims across the bay every morning and when he’s ready to go home he hitches a ride. So we gave him a ride back to our hotel where he barked a thank you and took off. Lol
Smart pup. The neighbors dog has a habit of going for a walk with anyone who happens by. So Dusty, walks people home and then they put him in the car and drop him back off.
I take my three dogs out on the trails next to my house every day. I use a snow machine or a four wheeler. My nearest neighbor’s dog lives about a quarter mile away and waits for us so he can run with my dogs. I’m careful to not pet him so he doesn’t get any other ideas. He looks like a golden retriever. They all greet each other and have a great time.

His owner lived right by the hotel we stayed at. The next morning we saw him out crabbing in front of our cabin. I was sitting on the deck that faced the ocean having a bowl of cereal. When he was done crabbing he came over and I gave him the milk. He then took off and swam across the bay. That became the morning routine for the week and a half we were there.
I’m sure we were just 2 of the suckers he encountered there every day. Lol

The shortline railroad I used to work for had a neighborhood Golden Retriever that would show up at the shop every morning at 7:30 when we opened up the enginehouse and he would hang out in the shop office all day.
Aside from running freight, we had a tourist passenger operation as well with historic coaches and when we would run school trips Sandy would head over to the picnic grove and “make friends” with the kids.
At the end of the day, one of the guys from the track gang would load Sandy in his car and drive him 1/4 mile up the road to his owner’s house. This was the routine every day.
Sometimes the truck drivers that were in and out of the yard transloading plastic resin from covered hoppers onto their truck would load up Sandy for a road trip... everyone knew where Sandy lived... so it was OK with his humans.
One year when we were running Santa Claus trains, we loaded Sandy onboard and as Santa made the rounds through the train asking little boys and girls what they wanted for Christmas, giving out candy canes, Sandy was right behind him going down the aisle of the coach, all happy to get pets and treats from the kids. Sandy was as much as, if not more than the hit that Santa was with the kids.
I recall Sandy “The Railroad Dog” getting a front page article in the County newspaper... I can still vividly see Sandy sleeping on the couch in the shop office... that was 25 years ago... What a dog!

A day or 2 later, she showed up again...limping. Knowing where to look, the vet found a thorn in her foot.
Later, she showed up again and this time he took it seriously and checked her until he found her problem the first visit...a piece of bone imbedded in her gums.
She lived about a half mile from the clinic...but nobody knows if whe went down the road or through the woods.
A picture of the vet and Sadie made the front page of the local paper.

Wow! They are probably a lot smarter than we think and think we are dumb.
Saw this on the evening news and it really made me smile. What a welcomed change from all the other crap on the news.
Oh, and I WANT that dog!!
I had a Golden Retriever that used to try to board the school bus with the neighbor’s children. The bus driver always booted her off. The kids would pretend that they didn’t know her, but the bus driver knew better. I was glad to learn about this so that I could keep her in at bus time.
Of course she was smarter than the average kindergartner, so it only makes sense that she should try to go to school.
I am hoping to train my puppy to run along with the 4 wheeler. She’s young yet and not getting the concept, but I have confidence in her.
