General Motors Co on Monday showed its Chevrolet Bolt concept car with an electric driving range of more than 200 miles and a $30,000 price tag, offering a view into where the U.S. automaker is pushing in development of electric vehicles (EV).

The all-electric Bolt is a concept car not currently slated for production, but Chief Executive Officer Mary Barra said the company is committed to developing an affordable long-range EV, and GM said they could develop the car in as little as 18 months.

“This is a real game changer,” Barra told reporters at the media preview at the Detroit auto show. “Trust me, this is no stripped-down science experiment.” …

“Trust me, this is no stripped-down science experiment.” …

I'll never buy another GM product. Also politics and social engineering dominate science and engineering in today's auto industry. Perhaps we have an auto industry version of Global Warming here?

No thanks! I'll keep my old gas guzzler luxury car for a while longer. It's paid for and I'll save the $30,000 for other things I need. A stripped down plastic car that indirectly uses electricity generated by the same old energy sources is not what America needs at this time.

“How about sitting on the Long Island Expressway or the GW Bridge for an hour?”

Actually, that is an area where electric vehicles shine. Unlike gasoline cars that have to idle the engine, electric cars use no energy when stopped (except for accessories).

>> Even when they go enviro-friendly, they still put what the customer wants, first.

They build a good solid product, too.

I have two Ford trucks. One turns 20 in April, and I’m the only owner and mechanic it knows. The other one is 15; I adopted it when it was 11.

No plans to replace either one yet.

“A stripped down plastic car...”

I can assure you that it will be made of metal. =)

“...that indirectly uses electricity generated by the same old energy sources is not what America needs at this time.”

Since we don't make electricity from oil in this country, electric cars have the potential to reduce our consumption of Jihad Juice by 90%.

from Volt to Bolt

And when the parts start falling off of it, they can call it the 'Molt'.

"...and a $30,000 price tag,..."

The article neglected to mention the $30,000 price tag was after tax incentives, but the photographer was nice enough to include it in the picture.

Time for Republicans to cut off the Fed. tax credit for electric vehicle’s. If these things are such great shakes it’s more than time for the manufactures to stand on their own two feet, especially true for Tesla.

Every pickup truck I’ve ever owned has been a Ford.

Several F series trucks, a ranger and even a Courier back in the day.
