I have just recently become an active poster (responder), and have seen the term "Crony Capitalism" used without explanation. Recently I saw the term associated with Communism, which confused me further. A "google" does little to clear things up, particularly in regards to how it might be interchangeable with communism. Can anyone help clear things up?
Economic inequality, can be the product of government coercion as occurs under feudalism and socialism, or as the result of any other arrangement, such as mixed economy, under which the government grants privileges or imposes arbitrary burdens. This sort of economic inequality is of radically different character from that which occurs under a free market, and is not only unnecessary, but positively inimical to a free modern division of labor society.
That is the wrong -ism.
Kinda like you scratch my back and I’ll scratch yours. With money and influence involved.
The interesting thing is that you CAN have Crony Socialism.
It is a partnership between big business/unions and big government.
It is not “Free Market Capitalism.” It is Fascism disguised as a free market.
Think of GM or Google paying for government influence to suppress competition and to owe $0 in taxes while making $billions.
It is the system used in China now. Fascism works very well for the cronies.
I would say Crony Capitalism is just shy of Fascism.
Capitalism/Free Market; Government applies laws equally to all, avoiding any favoritism. Government doesn’t own or control the means of production.
Crony Capitalism; Government chooses winners and losers by favoring one business or even industry over another, trading favors with government for the honor. Government bribes those who control the means of production in return for favors, funds for elections etc.
Fascism/Socialism; Government controls the privately owned means of production. Close to Crony Capitalism but without the outward appearance of control and intimidation, with existential authority.
Communism; Government controls and owns all means of production. Centralized control of all industry.
Oops,
Fascism/Socialism; Government controls the privately owned means of production. Close to Crony Capitalism but WITH the outward appearance of control and intimidation, with existential authority.
‘Crony capitalism’ is to real capitalism what a koala bear is to a real bear. Rather than trying to fit one’s business strategy to the market, a crony capitalist uses connections in government to fit the market to his business strategy.
The opposite of Crony Capitalism is “The Tea Party”...
In the actual historical world, all capitalism is crony capitalism, just as all socialism is national socialism.
In literature, it can be otherwise.
Corny Capitalism is what makes millionaires outta elected officials.
Capitalism is a marxist term (i don’t apply it to America as our country was founded under the assumptions of a free-market system) and correct for this application.
Cronyism is a separate agreement by a group in power favoring particular individuals, or industry groups (obviously for the gain of the power group bestowing favors) at the expense of those left out who must suffer from the agreement.
Crony Capitalism is a private agreement (most often unconstitutional) between agents of the gov’t and agents of a company or corporation that bestows a market advantage on that company over it’s direct competitors in that market.
it is a subtle, piecewise form of economic command and control and therefore not full blown communism. but it’s eventual effect is the same. therefore there is no distinction between it’s immorality and that of pure communism. it is the same thing on an individual company or industry level as full blown communism.
this is simple...
it is a term that republicans use when the want to pass a law that gives the fed more power over private citizens and businesses....
Crony Capitalism is when a capitalist uses his connections with a politician usually established by large donations to a political party to gain competitive advantage over his competition, fund his projects, raise capital from government sources instead of competing for it on the open market by having “connections” enabled by political donations, arrange for preferential regulation which benefits the crony over the competition, arrange government bids which are written to specifications which are so narrowly drawn that only the products of a company own by the crony can meet them, and operating in a “revolving door” manner by hiring regulators in executive positions from the companies being regulated, and vice-verse.
How about racketeering?
Not exactly correct.
Fascism: Big business owners/management controls government for the benefit of business. . . labor is at the behest and control of government for the benefit of business. Oligarchy of big business leaders make decisions of what happens in government for their benefit.
Socialism: Government owns/controls business/means of production. Labor operates under the fiction they are in control through "their" control of government. Oligarchy of bureaucrats make decisions of what happens in government for their benefit.
The lines between the two can blur and do. That is what we are experiencing today.
It is not any thing new, just a realization, transportation laws for instance like permits were advocated by many companies who were well established.
They chose to make laws which would make it hard for new comers to compete.
When the socialists came in to power they were against capitalism but the ones who will support them or even make them rich are at least tolerated.
Kind of like the story of robin hood, the king stole from the land owners and gave it to the rich land owners who supported him, Robin Hood just stole all he could back.
It's not. Some people on this forum call anything that's not American style conservatism "communist".
