I Wasn't Treating My Husband Fairly, And It Wasn't Fair

My "Aha Moment" happened because of a package of hamburger meat. I asked my husband to stop by the store to pick up a few things for dinner, and when he got home, he plopped the bag on the counter. I started pulling things out of the bag, and realized he'd gotten the 70/30 hamburger meat - which means it's 70% lean and 30% fat. “However, as long as ground round has at a minimum of 70% lean and maximum 30% fat and comes from the round, then it is correctly labeled. It could also have 90% lean and 10% fat and still be labeled as ground round.”

Thanks, Sparklite2.

See, Kackikat, why none of this makes any sense ?

My (low-price) grocery store sells 73-27 hamburger for a little bit cheaper.

It's not worth it, unless I'm looking to specifically add fat to a dish. Stuff cooks down to nothing, and pops and spits grease everywhere.

I read the article. Woman sounds difficult. About the only thing that I agreed with her on was the fact that he didn't clean up the shards of a broken glass in the kitchen (that's one of my pet peeves, too).

True but no matter what it’s made up of there is more fat in lower grades of beef.

In other words, low fat beef is more expensive.

I like your statement, and it is what they should say, instead of trying to pretend that a 70%lean/30%fat label is actually correct.

I meant exactly what I said. I have never seen a package of hamburger marked 70/30. I have, however, seen many packages of hamburger.

If she is in shape and generous in bed then a little nagging is tolerable. But if she is a once a mother, she has to go. Nags better put out.

So...is it very cold these days where you and all the other Neanderthals live?

Lean is an adjective, not a noun, but they use it as a noun.

Jack Sprat could eat no fat; his wife could eat no lean.

Any woman who actually considers modern television would be ashamed of how constantly they are being patronized.

What do advertisers know?

Very, very few women are capable of laughing at themselves, so they are never portrayed as fools or incompetents in any commercial or TV show. The fool or incompetent is always, ALWAYS the man.

Women will reject what their husbands say, but accept what their friend says, so husbands never give advice to wives in commercials, NEVER. It is either a 3rd party or the “astute wife” who knows best.

My wife is an otherwise intelligent woman, but when I see a certain type of commercial on TV, I know that I can expect a new air freshener or laundry detergent to show up soon at our home.

Wouldn’t a real man just make his own hamburger meat, after strangling the cow with his bare hands?

Now, how much filler is in hamburger meat ?

Now there is a good question. One would hope little to none. However, you can stretch your ground beef dollars by adding in TVP. Textured Vegetable Protein. Look it up. Fairly cheap and easy to use. It really stretches the meat you use for meat loaf and such. It's a good thing to have stashed with your Preps.

But I will never use it again in grilled burgers. There are just some places you don't scrimp. And my custom burgers are at the top of that list.

No one should get upset reading this unless it is at themselves. It’s an excellent article that many should read. Perhaps it would open some eyes and lower the divorce rate.

http://www.bhg.com/advice/food/grilling/what-lean-to-fat-ratio-in-ground-beef-will-result-in-the-juiciest-best-tasting-burgers/

The fat is the taste, whereas that 30% may contain some water. However, 70/30 makes a better hamburger. To eat ‘more healthy’ SUPPOSEDLY means less fat, or does it?

Good stereotypes, but I might make a couple of small changes...

From what I've seen, the gay/lesbian sidekick is the one who's usually hip/cool/trendy/funny - though as you pointed out, "Black male/female" fills this role, too.

You left out the "Worldly, Wise, Measured, Older Black Male", who is smarter/superior in every way to the dumb white guy. To wit, think "Every single role Morgan Freeman has ever played".

And don't forget the kids, who are always smarter than the dad. Always.

Well, possibly. But in actuality, only Chuck Norris does it that way.

See, this is why I don't understand it. In my view, what you would have left is 100% meat. If it's 70% meat, what's the other 30% ?

A "quarter pound" 70/30 patty will shrink during cooking as the fat cooks off. Even if both start off as "quarter pound" patties, the 70/30 patty ends up a much smaller hamburger than the 85/25 patty does. The higher the fat content is before cooking, the smaller the cooked patty will end up.

I remember a while ago you pointed out that whatever commercial you saw involving both a man and a woman, the guy always did or said something wrong or stupid, then the woman would come in and fix it or say the right thing. After you said that, I noticed it in most of the commercials I had seen.

How was your new year?

hmmm. Chuck Norris would waste his time with something as trivial as "making hamburger". He'd just have the chef chase a cow past him, and then bite off what he wanted.

I heard, once, that NY is the City That Never Sleeps .... unless Chuck Norris tells it to.

Jack Sprat can eat 7/10s of it, and his wife gets the rest.
