The SUV may cost about 180,000 ($214,000) and is part of a move to expand beyond sedans and coupes: the Continental GT, the Flying Spur and Mulsanne. Bentley announced a £800-million ($1.22 billion) three-year investment plan in 2013.
The new vehicle will compete with the likes of the Porsche Cayenne Turbo S, the Mercedes-Benz GL63 AMG and the top-of-the-line Range Rover from Tata Motors' Jaguar Land Rover unit. On Tuesday, Rolls-Royce Motors Cars said it would decide this year whether to join the fray with its own SUV model.
Bentley parent VW, Europe's largest automaker, is making a broader push to expand in lucrative premium cars with brands including Audi, Porsche and Lamborghini. It's based on a prototype presented at the Geneva motor show in 2012. While the design has been modified since, the concept car sported features including picnic hampers for pologround tailgating, 23-inch wheels and gaping turbine-like air intakes.

No matter how hard liberals try, trucks and SUVs keep selling in record numbers!
Damned ugly if you axe me....
Other than the colour of the interior, I like it. I need something that is closer to the ground than my Toyota 4X4.
That’s so gay!
When I was a kid in the 1960’s, I thought Mercedes Benz’s were ugly. Then I found out what they were. It’s funny how, with cars, beauty is often not skin deep.
I see this as spectacular SUV opulance. I’d never own one since my ideal car is as small as physically possible, but for many, this will be a very HOT commodity. It’s what “The Great Gatsby” would drive if he were real and alive today.
Not my thing. I’ll keep the 79 Blazer, 65 Willys Jeep, and the 82 CJ7.
Small, SUV-like, vehicles are all the rage right now. They get decent gas mileage, offer 4x4 drivetrains for bad weather, decent ground clearance for snow and dirt roads, beefier suspensions and chassis for bad roads, lots of interior room, and many luxury options usually only seen in luxury cars.
I don’t find this box-style of car very pretty, they somewhat remind me of the station wagons when I was young. But, I know the young people all buy them, they are great family cars.
If I had the money for that car I would buy something else.
My 2005 Blazer is a keeper. Sturdy and quiet and a great turning radius. 20 mpg, usually. The only off road driving: my garage.
No, but it’s not designed for that.
The angled rear end kills it for me...
If a manufacturer is going to offer a “utility” vehicle, then don’t skimp on the utility of it by reducing its available cargo space.
“No, but its not designed for that.”
Obviously not. If you tried to leave the paved road it would probably shut down. /s
Back when I was day trading futures I used to say......I left a Bentley on the table. It actually happened quite often. Lol
It’s really just a more capable station wagon. That’s fine.
“Its really just a more capable station wagon. Thats fine.”
One could argue that it’s more capable. But very much nicer to ride in, which is fine. :)
‘03 Ford F-250 four door, 4 x 4 Super Duty truck for me.
I like the look of the Bentley sedan, but that SUV is just plain ugly.
That looks like a British car. And as an aside, I really don;t understand the point of a luxery SUV? isn’t that kinda an oxymoron?
