Hello, Grania :)

What they are looking for is fully developed compliant stars. The results are kind of weird as contestants try on different identities and are more about appeasing the judges and jumping through hoops.

I think you nailed it. Idol may not have the time or resources to turn a green kid into the next "superstar" like they used to. Now they seem to be satisfied with "close enough".

Is there anyone I should expect better things from than what happened last night?

There are. Last week's show didn't have the best examples, lol. And their Save was done purely for PC reasons. But Clark, Tyanna and Jax are the ones to watch. And Joey--the girl with blue hair. The judges like her, but she's too odd for me.

Sorry I missed the show, I was binge-watching 24.

I can't find any fault with that :)

Cant believe they used the save, when there are much more talented/deserving singers left .....

I agree. But as PC as Idol is, they had no choice but to save him.

Whoops, scrolling FR for a minute in a pep boys somewhere in the middle of ca waiting for them to fix a flat tire in my van, and I see this message from jonny pop up. Now I am “spoiled” for this last weeks shows which I missed due to travel to the Mountains to see my parents. Can’t believe they saved him (just think ing of his last week before flop) but, for those reasons, yes, we can. Bleah.

Will catch up on the show and the thread before weds! Missed you!

And I was being careful not to ping you :) Sorry about that. Last week’s show is worth watching just for the surprise guest performance (which I may have also spoiled). Outdid everybody.

Scott Borchetta Takes American Idol to Nascar’s Fast Lane in Fontana

FOX’s hit show American Idol is experiencing strong ratings in its 14th season with Big Machine Label Group President/CEO Scott Borchetta in the driver’s seat as the show’s new in-house Mentor.

Borchetta, who has been working with the Idol contestants since November of last year, is prominently featured on the show each week where he advises this season’s crop of eclectic and edgy young singers on song selection, stage presence and fan engagement.

In an effort to show contestants the pressures of performing the National Anthem in front of thousands of fans, Borchetta arranged for Idol’s Top 11 remaining contestants to perform the song at the Auto Club 400 NASCAR race this past weekend in Fontana, CA. The contestants delivered a powerful performance on the track before serving as grand marshals for the race with Borchetta. Footage from the race will appear on this week’s show.

A longtime racing fan, Borchetta can often be spotted at tracks all over the nation on weekends taking in a Nascar, IndyCar or Formula One race. For the 2015 racing season, Big Machine Records is a sponsor of the the Chip Ganassi Racing Team.

Borchetta is a longtime believer that racing and music are very synonymous, telling Forbes magazine, “There are a lot of parallels, there really are. As far as the talent, as far as strategy … part of it is, ‘Get me that lane nobody else is racing in and we’ll find a way to win it.’”

American Idol airs Wednesdays on FOX at 8/7 Central.

Jeff Gordon invites all of the idols to the race this Sunday ... well, not all of them. “One of you will be watching it on TV.”

Lol, he did not say that! (But it’s true!)

Adana is wearing a wig, I just realized. Wonder what her real hair looks like.

Holy heck, the Toddler can’t carry off this Adam Levine song. No way, no how. The way he sings this, he shouldn’t have passed the initial audition.

A Ricky Minor head Bob. I hope he has a good chiropractor.

(T)Rayvon wasn’t too bad. Whichever BeeGees have passed probably turned a little in their graves. JLo has brought her puppies to play.

What was the game show Ricky Minor was on about 5-7 years ago? Something about song lyrics. We used to watch that. Anyone else?

This guy’s head is distracting. The shape of it. It’s like a shoebox with ears.

Is the unshaven part of his head the top of the shoe box? And is it the kind that opens on one side only, so you can’t lose the top?

This version of Danger Zone is the worst thing to the memory of Top Gun since Meg Ryan changed her face.

One fish two fish blue hair yellow teeth RUINED that song. I liked Adam Lambert’s version soooooooo much. Better than the original. He did it live on Idol and you felt so much sadness. I just got “control my voice into a creepy rasp” — I felt nothing. I hated it. They should play a video of Adam’s version. Hers is a JOKE compared to that.

I actually like the peppy version of You’re the One that I Want.

I don’t think I will ever get used to the pig ring in the nose. Ever.

Kenny Loggins!!!! He sounds great. His voice is rich and warm.

Jonny, I was unspoiled about this!!! I had no idea. But no wonder Harry kept saying, Hey I love Kenny Loggins, just this specific song wasn’t right for you... Lol. But he did thank Kenny and say what a treat.
