WALTHAM, Mass. - A suburban Boston man is accused of killing his wife during an argument over a Christmas gift, reports CBS Boston.

Julio Resto, 51, pleaded not guilty to murder and other charges in Waltham District Court Wednesday afternoon in the death of his wife, 42-year-old Gloria Resto. He was ordered held without bail.

Police say Resto first tried to strangle his wife and then stabbed her with a kitchen knife in their apartment in Waltham early Wednesday morning.

Julio told police his wife was upset with him because he did not buy her a Christmas gift, reports the station.

I have a gift story for you.

I used to iron my husband’s shirts and made a comment that one was a pleasure to press because of the great material.

About 2 weeks later he came home from work with a bag and told me that he had a surprise for me. Needless to say,I was delighted.

He had bought himself 2 more of those easy-to-iron shirts.

As Walter E. Williams used to say when he guest hosted Rush, I bought my wife a new vacumn cleaner. :-)

Wife and I don’t buy gifts for each other either...we buy for our kids and relatives but we take the $$$ and give it to a charity here to help homeless kids.

If it wasn’t for Christmas, that woman would still be alive.

Ban Christmas!

We gave up doing ‘adult gifts’ in our house about 10 years ago. We buy for no one but the grandkids, not even each other.
We figured out that if we actually want something we buy it for ourselves anyway.

Wow, I didn’t receive anything and it never occurred to me to murder anyone.

Your resentment and rage are building up. Eventually, you're going to explode, and then, the most unimaginable act of...

(Just kidding!)

The husband and I have not bought one another gifts for years.

By mutual consent, fine and dandy, who cares? But if SHE buys him nice stuff and HE doesn't buy her stuff at all, that's a formula for a disaster. My bff ought to quit and see what he does then. BTW, ;he's a psychiatrist. LOL

He bought her a bouquet of $10 supermarket flowers and she was so proud, giddy and tearful about it as it was the first gift he had gotten her in over 20 years. He let her think it was his idea. I let him.

Too sad. Good of you to hold his feet to the fire, maybe he'll pop for another $10 someday "just because it's Thursday" or some romantic foolishness like that. Would do wonders for the low-expectations marriage.

Yes, true, it should be by mutual consent. But if she continues to buy him stuff while expecting him to reciprocate she probably needs to re-examine the situation.

Why are couples spending so much on gifts they will never use, or have to return, it’s insane. They should agree on something for each or both together, and have a great meal out...it’s not complicated. Christmas is about Jesus Birthday, not ours.
