The show ran from 1962 - 1971.

And "The Beverly Hillbillies" had good ratings, even in 1971. It was canceled anyway. CBS thought that the show was not sophisticated enough for the "hip" audience it wanted to attract.

The same thing happened to "Green Acres".

I thought both shows were funny. I liked Petticoat Junction, too. I still watch them when I can find them.

Beverly Hillbillies was replaced by a more sophisticated show that featured “Meathead” and toilets loudly flushing upstairs.

Loved Green Acres. I still ‘get allergic’ when I see what passes for entertainment today. Admittedly, there are some good shows today, but others; what were they thinking?
Green Acres introduced me to my first ‘snake oil salesman’ in Mr. Haney., my fictional next door elderly neighbor in Mr. Ziffel., and Eva, the Beautiful Bimbo, with a good heart.

In the grand scheme of things it didn't matter much anyways. Irene Ryan (Granny) died shortly after the show ended. I can't imagine them going on without Granny or God forbid replacing her.

It’s called the rural purge.

Norman Lear and Lear-influenced propaganda shows began to replace the rural themed conservative values shows in the 70’s.

It changed the US for the worse more than we realize.

It was #1 for many years. Made a fortune. Green Acres and Petticoat Junction were spin-offs. I think BH started the spin-off craze.

Always leave it to CBS to cancel wholesome, down-to-earth TV shows for garbage.

Didn’t they cancel “Cheers” and “Taxi”, among others, or was it the other two twits (ABC and NBC)?

The CBS slogan is: “If it is good for America, we won’t show it”.

CBS: The most hated network in Nam, and for good reasons- Rather, Safer, Brewster, etc.

I read a book on liberal Hollywwod recently

That era of purging TV of rural or faux rural family values programming is called just the The Rural Purge or something about cancelling any show with a tree in it

It wasn’t due to ratings...it was demographics....the rural shows attracted fewer under 30 viewers on the 3 networks

And it was in step ideologically with a further leftward Norman Lear style pool of TV creativity

The country elected Nixon twice

Freddie Silverman went the opposite way and cancelled all the folksy stuff

Even Lassie....

In a few years TV resembled pretty much where it is today

Tawdry

Leftist progressive and not funny

And very very homosexual agit prop.

Moments of greatness on occasion but mostly a reflection of the angry and alienated

But...an ever dumbing down populace take it as gospel
