Now, what once was one of the premier venues in the world is a tattered, empty reminder of the stadium's memorable past - and of the dismal economy in Michigan.
Last month Michigan's sometimes harsh weather put pay to the final sections of the old stadium's Teflon-covered roof which just dropped to the field.
Afterwards Ohio-based photographer Johnny Joo visited the abandoned stadium and his photos offer an eerie, empty look at a stadium that once held nearly 100,000 people.

Very sad to think the Silverdome is a goner.

The depopulation of Detroit over the past 45 years is the best thing to happen to the city, and it has gotten to the point where investors can indeed pick up land on the cheap and not have a spiteful city government to get in its way.
I was inside the Silverdome briefly just over 5 years ago. It looked like with just a little cleanup, it would be ready for a game. This is sad.
Houston’s city leaders (and the team owner) neglected Houston’s Astrodome (they even applied fire codes that the Dome was exempted from due to grandfathering).
Our basketball stadium/arena was given to Joel Olsteen in a sweetheart deal.

The trick, in the future, will be to keep it from falling back into communist hands again and suffering another 50 years of distruction!

It literally has provided Detroit a clean slate from which to build back up from, the question is, can they do it right?
