I have no interest in Directv. I have seen both and I like Dish’s setup much better.

But, what I will do is downsize my Dish package if they jack up the rate.

I’ll probably zap the movie channels.

Just to add ...

Forget DISH. This REALLY puts pressure on MSNBC. They are the only cable news channel left on the dial.

If their ratings don’t go up, then they are screwed.

No thanks. I ditched them when they added Al jezera. I do not support those who promote those who would separate my head from my body.
I have been without satellite or cable since.

Dish needs to switch to a la carte for one year and clear the room.

That would be great, and would do more to lower cable/satellite bills than anything else. But, they can't do it without the consent of the programming providers. They bundle their "popular" channels with high cost channels that you can't refuse.

The parent company of Fox News is doing the same thing with a couple of sports channels, and that one of the reasons for this dispute with DISH.

Dish tv is getting to be a joke. Home shopping channels and reruns is all they show. Pretty pitiful. Direct does look better at time goes on.

Ok direct tv/dish users. How reliable do you find the signal. Thinking of dropping cable but keep hearing about bad signal breakup in bad weather.

Wed've had Directv for years and years. The signal is extremely reliable for us. If a torrential rain is on the way, it might blink out for a few minutes, but never any more than that.

I think a lot depends upon your geographic location. I had Direct for a 2 year contract and every thunderstorm would give me a blank screen. Since this is Florida, summer T'storms are common. Now on cable and pretty reliable.

Don't know if the providers will give reliability numbers but I would definitely ask and also ask about reliability guarantees. If you don't ask, you won't get!

Dish needs to switch to a la carte for one year and clear the room. FNC will probably survive but MSNBC, CNN, and about 50 othe useless channels will vanish.
++++
In the long run we are all going to get our TV a la carte over the Internet. Why put up expensive satellites when you can pipe your programming over land lines. With the exception of NFL, Fox News and, of course, Gold Rush, that’s the way I do it right now.

Having a $100 Roku 3 is the way to go.

DIRECT TV is looking better and better all the time .

Was a customer of theirs for six years. Had a package w/o any movie channels and when they jacked my rate up to over $100/mo. from $60/mo (which was also too high) I dropped them like a rock.

I'll tell you straight-up Cable & Satellite TV aren't worth the cost. We use our Roku with NetFlix and Hulu Plus (total $16/mo.) and haven't regretted dropping DirecTV for a single minute.

Starting next year Nielsen will be rating online viewing such as Netflix streaming. This is going to kill traditional cable and Satellite. Dish already knows this and it’s why they will not pay a lot money to carry a channel.

Then you have channels like HBO, Showtime, CBS and now NBC that will be offering a monthly subscription at $4.99 a month to the public. This was not allowed in the past, but it’s finally here. More and more channels will be following soon too. So going forward people do not have to have a cable or satellite subscription anymore. All you need is a high speed internet connection.

It’s ala-cart TV in other words. It makes sense since most people only watch 10 to 20 channels at the most on average. This is even though they have 100 channels or more.

Companies like Roku, Amazon, Google and Apple already have devices that turn your TV so it’s like a smart with all the Apps. Roku just the other day now has over 2000 channels that you can choose to add. Some require a monthly subscription while many are free.

If you still want the local channels (football, local news), then pick up an RCA Digital Antenna. You will either have a perfect picture or not. There’s no in between like the old rabbit ears.

It’s a one time cost of anywhere between $30 to $50. So you will not have to pay for the local channels. It’s just an attachment to your TV inside. So there is no antenna outside the house.

Some of us out here don’t have high speed internet. I get maybe 1 meg from Frontier cause we live so far out of town and I have to pay for 3 meg service. So I don’t have much of a choice...........

No. I get FOX with online streaming. And sports is the bane of my existence. That probably is a good application for DTV or Dish.
