Another blackout for Dish customers, this time Fox News
CNN ^ | Dec. 21, 2014 | Brian Stelter

For the third time in a month, Dish Network customers are missing out on popular programming due to a dispute with a channel owner.

This time it's Fox News, one of the most popular cable channels in the United States. The channel disappeared from Dish (DISH)'s lineup shortly after midnight Eastern time because Dish's contract to carry Fox News expired before it could be renewed.

Relax, it will be back. They'll come to an agreement.

Fox wants to raise the cost DISH pays per subscriber. DISH doesn't want to pay an increased cost, because they will have to increase your bill to cover it.

You didn't think Fox lets DISH (or any other cable/satellite provider) distribute it for free, did you?

DISH is trying to keep costs down for you. That’s why they negotiate. To benefit you.

Dish has said expect a 5 buck hike or so in your cable bill in the new year.

We already saw turner and such pull their programming a couple months ago.. Expect more.. Or less.

Dish needs to switch to a la carte for one year and clear the room. FNC will probably survive but MSNBC, CNN, and about 50 othe useless channels will vanish.

DISH is trying to maximize their profits. Period. I’m cool with that too. However, representing that as anything else is either misguided or intentionally misleading.

The cable increase is about $3.

What isn’t going up? (other than the price of commodities)

And they removed FOXNEWS, Guess the $5 buck hike will go to $10+ when FOX News returns??

Yep. They’d be doing a great service for the country. If DISH went a la carte, I’d write my Congressman and see if we could get ‘em a Congressional Medal of Freedom or somethin’.

90% of Dishs’ programming in my package I do not watch , and it’s still expensive and has gone up in the last year.
I’m now going to take a look at Direct TV .
I wonder if they also have all the ‘spanish’ channels that clutter the Dish net ?

Congress has done been paid off on this. We HAVE to subsidize the Spanish channels, ya’ see.

“DIRECT TV is looking better and better all the time . This might be the final straw for me & Dish ..... I hope to see a number of Dish execs FIRED over this one . Who are these morons anyway? “

Dish is THE worst about this kind of BS: they do this ALL the time. It’s why I switched to DirecTV a couple of years ago, namely Dish dropped the AMC channel line up then.

Since then, I’ve never looked back, even though DirecTV is a bit more expensive. I like the GUI and functions of DirecTV better, and like the fact that they attempt to start and stop program recordings when the programs actually start and stop instead of on automatic half hour boundaries like Dish always used to do.

I wish more people would get up off their lazy butts and switch service providers pull these kinds of stunts. It’s really the only thing they’re going to pay attention to, namely mass numbers of customers fleeing to competitors.

Ohhhhh....think of the promotional opportunity of a hundred million people on the streets doing their ala carte happy dancing? I think between the spouse and I we watch maybe 10 channels.

Of course he being the ‘man of the house’ has to flip thru 350 channels to find his one channel. Wouldn’t want to miss the watching paint dry marathon.

Ditch Dish.

If you have separate broadband, you can us ROKU streaming and Netflix for $8 a month.

Always something on, when you want it...way more TV and movies than you could possibly ever watch.
