Barack Obama's historic peace-deal with Cuba after 50 years of cold war hostility was a breakthrough not to be sniffed at.
But that didn't stop the US president having a try, when he got close and personal to a Cuban on Wednesday ... not a citizen, but a cigar.
Significantly, it was the first time in 52 years that a US president has officially savoured the Cuban delicacy since John F. Kennedy stockpiled a secret stash of his favourite Havanas in the hours before he imposed a trade embargo on the Communist state in 1962.
This, of course, doesn't include Bill Clinton's adventures with cigars and Monica Lewisnky in the Oval Office.

It’s either a churchill or double corona. No band though, so it may be private stock.
These days the First Lady is the one with the secret stash.
People who really know cigars know that Cubans aren’t what they once were...soil depletion, poor fertilization and insect control and shabby manufacturing are some of the reasons. Only the very top of the market cigars are truly superior to those produced in places like the Dominican Republic. Most of those in the black market in the US (and in shops in the Bahamas and Mexico for that matter) are either fakes or inferior products dressed up to look like high end brands. The only way to be sure you’re getting the best of the best is from reputable dealers in places like London or Switzerland, and dollar for dollar they just aren’t worth it.
At least obola SMOKED his ...
Smoking is, now, O.K., with the left, especially if it involves Cuban Cigars?
A president does not have the authority to change or ignore the law, but Barack Hussein Obama has proven numerous times that he has usurped that power. The precedent set by Obama is a long-term danger to freedom, above and beyond the immediate evil of his specific policies and the lasting destruction induced by the massive growth of our national debt.
Barky’s idea of a cigar is probably a Swisher Sweet.
He can put it in his Fahgina.
All Cuban cigars in Europe are imported through Andorra. Castro made a deal with them to avoid European taxes. The freshest, best priced, largest selection of cigars is availble there.
Here’s an article from the time Arnold had a Cuban cigar and the dust up then,

Except for that one exception, most every reference at the time had the poster you responded to as correct.
A good cigar is wasted on Obama. He is better suited for a crack pipe.
Except for that one exception

I read the article to state it was illegal to import. Do you read that differently?
Most of the folks I worked with overseas bought Cuban cigars while we were out of the country. They were smoked (as far as I know or claim) while we were still out of the country.
I’m Monica Lewinsky, and I endorse this message....
Cubans are good. But the cigar makers have gotten pretty good results in the last 50 years.
I am not sure they are worth the premium.
That may be the most expensive cigar in the history of the country.
“The only exception is for travelers returning from Cuba, who are allowed to bring in cigars whose value does not exceed $100.”
But most travel to Cuba is illegal.
Other articles at the time maintained that even if an American buys and smokes a Cuban cigar abroad, it’s still a violation of the law.
I read that as a loophole for selected diplomatic travel.

I haven't seen that, and I cannot imagine how that could possibly be enforced.
Hell’s bells, Bubba greatly enjoyed pre-enjoyed cigars! Greatly! Har!
Re: FUBO and a fine Havana...”Pearls before swine”...He wouldn’t know a fine cigar from a carrot even if someone shoved one up his...Then again...?
As I’m sure you know, the chief attraction these days of cigars made in Cuba is the relative rarity and novelty of the stick, and that it’s possession in the US is taboo...Fine and legal smokes are and have been readily available from many places around the Caribbean since and thruout the embargo...Cuban expats saw to it they smuggled out Cuban seeds and have succeeded in raising tobacco in conditions similar to Cuba that in the opinion of many if not all tobacco aficionados is on a par with anything Cuban-grown...
Cuban, Schmuban...My favorite smokes come from Dominica, and though I will sample Havanas if they become available and reasonably priced, wouldn’t miss ‘em otherwise...
