Barack Obama's historic peace-deal with Cuba after 50 years of cold war hostility was a breakthrough not to be sniffed at.
But that didn't stop the US president having a try, when he got close and personal to a Cuban on Wednesday ... not a citizen, but a cigar.
Significantly, it was the first time in 52 years that a US president has officially savoured the Cuban delicacy since John F. Kennedy stockpiled a secret stash of his favourite Havanas in the hours before he imposed a trade embargo on the Communist state in 1962.
This, of course, doesn't include Bill Clinton's adventures with cigars and Monica Lewisnky in the Oval Office.

What are they talking about? Bill Clinton greatly enjoyed cigars.
I believe it is illegal for any American citizen to be in possession of a Cuban cigar, anywhere in the world.
I did not think that 0bama had the power to single-handedly change laws, by edict.
Of course, it does not help that no one in the MSM challenges his ability to do these things on his own.
He wouldn’t know a fine cigar from a Swisher Sweet.
A country and a people betrayed... for the price of a cigar.
Great legacy... just effing stellar
If you think Clinton did not have a Cuban cigar before Obama, I’ve got a bridge in Brooklyn I’d like to sell to you.
False. It was an importation block.
I bet it’s not Monica-flavored.
Just be glad he didn’t dump out the tobacco and roll up a blunt.
Anybody who really wanted to savor a Cuban cigar can find them to savor. I’m not even a cigar smoker and I’ve savored a few over the years.
Frankly they aren’t any different than cigars made in Honduras. It’s all in your imagination if you think they are any better. Cigars are a poor reason to celebrate the recognition of a brutal dictatorship.
Maybe so, but I don't know anyone in Texas, regardless of their political persuasion who doesn't have a few Cuban cigars tucked away. My husband has brought them back from Europe many times and the customs folks just smile and send him through.
Does he have any idea that that may be a Churchill? I hope that ruins the experience for him.
Straight from depleted soils.

Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar.
Maybe Reggie seasoned it for him.
I wonder if the Cuban slaves who made the cigar got minimum wage? Hmmm, Mr. President?
I think it was described elsewhere as a Churchill. He’ll probably drill it out and stuff it full of weed. Maybe it’s got blue mold... Heard that killed a lot of cigar business in Cuba a while back.
Dipped in rum and reggieurine.
Think Seinfeld.
