Very few alcoholics think they have a problem. My brother didn’t, and it almost killed him. He is crippled in one arm because of it, but he still drinks with his good hand. He “doesn’t have a problem” with alcohol, just ask him.

When you guzzle a fifth every other day, you have a problem.

I won;t argue with that.

When a fifth lasts two to four weeks (sometimes even longer) do you think the person has a problem?

Who makes the call, wrench?

If I told you I drank a pint of booze every morning between 6 and 7, went to work by 8AM, was productive throughout the day until 6PM, went home, made dinner and went to sleep by 10PM; who decides I’m an alcoholic?

How many “normal Joe” types come “home from the factory/docks” every day, grab a couple of beers and vegetate in front of the TV until dinner...are these guys alcoholics or just normal Americans?

Yes, we have an alcohol problem but it stems more from the pietistic temperance idea than from real medical knowledge.

“Who makes the call, wrench?”

Your own body makes that call. When it is pushed too far, it breaks down.

The pint a day guy will die in recovery if he needs emergency surgery that requires general anesthesia.,

Then all his problems will be behind him.

2 beers a day vs a pint of liquor every morning are not in the same league.

Because 6.4 to 8 ounces of pure alcohol is more than 1.2 ounces. What do I win?

WayneS,

I followed your recommendation and Knob Creek has been my bourbon of choice lately, but I noticed this last bottle tastes a little off, a little more “woody” than previous bottles.

Have you ever noticed that?

Thanks,
K51

Yes I have. The flavor does vary from batch to batch. That is one of the things I like about the smaller-batch single barrel bourbons. But I’ve never had what I would call a “bad” bottle of either Knob Creek or Rare Breed.

Both of those are becoming popular enough that they are probably more like “medium-batch” bourbons, if there is such a thing - I do hope the efforts to produce greater amounts do not detract from their quality in the future.
