NFL admits Ed Hochuli erred on key penalty against 49ers

On a third-and-5 early in the fourth quarter, Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson couldn't connect with rookie wide receiver Paul Richardson, but a roughing the passer penalty against 49ers linebacker Nick Moody bailed out Seattle. Instead of kicking a field goal to remain ahead by one score, the defending Super Bowl champions received a first down and scored a touchdown to go up 17-7 two plays later.

All I heard today on sports talk radio was that bad call completely changed the momentum of the game and that it deflated and demoralized the 49’s.

There were several, including that one where the defender pushed the ball carrier out of bounds and got a 15 yard penalty for his troubles. Big, big boosts to the Seahawks.

And I'm not a 49s fan.

I think you're right. The Cardinals have endured years of calls lopsided against them. They seem to be going in their favor this year.

The penalty was on the guy who hit the Seahawk AFTER he was pushed out of bounds by the other 49er. They had a clear shot of it and it was an easy call.

The penalty was on the guy who hit the Seahawk AFTER he was pushed out of bounds by the other 49er.

He wasn't out of bounds when the guy charged him. The runner could have stayed in bounds at that point, and if the D didn't go at him, he might have kept going. As it happened, the runner did go out of bounds and the D's momentum carried through.

It was anything but gratuitous, and certainly didn't merit a 15 yard penalty.

I agree, but the league wants the game to be played in Denver not Foxboro, since the Pats will eviscerate Manning.

They tried for the past thre weeks to cause a Pats loss. Hochuli succeded against the Packers.

The game will be in Foxboro. Manning better come prepared with an extra case of depends.

They’re at least rare. Bad calls are the norm for my team (who is in the same division as Denver). And they are MUCH more obvious than the “bad” call in this thread.
