Michael Sullivan was training to join the Special Forces when he and his fellow soldiers had a real-world lesson to talk about in a food court on Fort Bragg.
On Sept. 9, 2001, suicide attackers posing as journalists assassinated Ahmed Shah Massoud, a leader of the Northern Alliance in Afghanistan.
The Green Beret trainees were familiar with the ongoing conflict in Afghanistan, Sullivan said. They knew Massoud was seen as a threat to the Taliban regime.
Two days later, on Sept. 11, Sullivan - then a captain - was signing for textbooks for his language courses when the planes crashed into the towers in New York and the Pentagon in Washington.

I’m definitely pro-military when they do their job they were hired, trained, and assigned to do - kill the enemy and destroy their toys. That’s it.
Not meals-on-wheels, habitat for humanity, or some other feel good cause to get the enemy to like us.
Anything else that needs to be done let other-than-military do it.
Who else can do the Special Forces mission that the article describes? Did you read the article?
If you think the Special Forces are only commandos that conduct raids and reconnaissance like the SEALs and Rangers, then you are just ignorant, they have a much more complicated mission, including working to keep the American military from having to fight.
If you respect the military, then try to learn something about it, it is far more than your cliches and simple minded raging inaccurately describe.

The US military did their best to take out the Taliban, but the Taliban are doing very, very well for themselves these days.

What our SF guys did was for nothing but a hollow victory.
It sure would be nice if our military was committed to winning wars and conflicts.
But I guess it’s better to bribe the enemy than to spend that money on war fighting them.
SF is doing what it does best, teaching the Afghans to fight for themselves, just as many think that the green berets were winning in Vietnam, before the democrats sent in the Army and Marines.
Like we really need to train Muzzie how to do jihad more effectively!
