PLAINS, Mont., Dec. 11 (UPI) -- A dead coyote hung from a tree with a Christmas bow along a Montana school bus route is outraging residents, but police said the display is not illegal.
Plains resident Mary Ellen Siegford, who posted a picture of the less-than-cheerful holiday display on Facebook, said her daughter burst into tears when she saw the dead animal.
"A lot of people were just like, 'Well, be glad it's dead. You don't have to worry about it eating your pets,'" Siegford told KECI-TV. "But I don't know. To me, it's morbid, it rings of animal cruelty. It's just not very pleasant to drive past, and I feel it's pretty gruesome for the school kids to be passing by on their way to and from school."

Siegford said the dead coyote was joined Wednesday by the hanging body of a dead raccoon.
"12 days of christmas... a skunk next? what?" she said in a Facebook comment.

And, a display may not be illegal, but the fact that it will decompose and be a health hazard would seem a legal issue,

Here, the coyote population could stand to be decimated at the least, near annihilated at best.

I thought it has long been the habit of some to hang predators, i.e. wolves, coyotes, on fences, etc. to ward of other such predators. I wonder just how long Mary Ellen Siegford has lived in Montana and if she is a recent liberal import.
that’s what buzzards are for.
Critters die in the country side all the time and get cleaned up by them.
Nothing else there.

Perhaps we should have a practice of hanging other types of predators as a warning to the rest.

Not sure that hanging an animal would make it easier for the vulture and insects to do their thing.

It is 37 degrees in Plains Montana. It is not likely to decay vary rapidly, like in Summer. Right now Montana is pretty much like putting it in your ice box.
I like the “animal cruelty” part. Hanging an already dead animal is now “cruel”.
