Free Wi-Fi more important than a good night's sleep when booking a hotel
UK Daily Mail ^ | December 4, 2014 | Katie Amey

When looking for the perfect hotel, its Wi-Fi service is the most important factor, according to new research. A survey on important factors when searching for accommodation revealed that 67 per cent of travellers are most concerned with Wi-Fi, above any other factor. The internet connection ranked higher than the hotel's location, a good night's sleep and friendly staff.

So I guess travelers will flock to a dump in the ghetto if it has buffo Wi-Fi. LOL!

They didn't survey me! We stayed at a motel last year and our room was right next to the mechanical room.. NEVER again will accept that again. the knocking noises and the bumps kept me awake. At 3am I went to the desk in my night gown and demanded another room. They gave me one on the 3rd floor and my deaf husband stayed in the noisy room.

I travel a lot. Free Wi fi factors in to my decision, but it isn’t the top decision.

No, but in reality, if I am traveling, especially for business and I have to stay in a semi-crappy hotel anyway, I want Wi-Fi. And if a hotel is that backwards that it doesn’t have this, or has a dial-up type connection, then they will NOT be getting my money.

I’m generally more concerned with the quality of the connection than with whether it’s free. Free stuff is just built into the price anyway.

Exactly.

What good is free wi-fi when 100 or more hotel guests are logged on and the connections take 5 minutes?

I want a hotel room that has WiFi and has a nice comfortable bed in a quiet room so I can sleep. It’s not too hard to find such places on Priceline and other websites.

But when they bill it out by the hour, it has a huge markup.

I don’t think I’ve ever stayed, outside resorts where a convention was in progress, anywhere connection was billed by the hour.

Convention centers are of course notorious for pulling stuff like this.

It’s not my biggest concern but I do look for it, just like I look for cable/sat on the tv.

1. Location.
2. Price
3. Reputation for comfort/convenience/cleanliness.
4. TV w/ ESPN and Weather Channel at minimum.
5. Wi-Fi access.

It truly stuns me how the internet has warped so many people’s decision making. And in an astonishingly short time.

There are hotels that bill by the day. I stayed at the Hilton in downtown Houston on a Friday night when my girl friend and I picked up a friend of hers who was flying in from Europe. The Hilton hotel rooms did not come with free WiFi, although the lobby on the ground floor had free WiFi. I got a pretty good rate for the room on Priceline, because downtown Houston doesn't have much demand for hotels on the weekend. They do however, charge for the extra amenities al la carte. Parking in the garage that is across the street but connected by a sky walk is extra and so is WiFi in the room.

LOL! That goes without saying. I travel to Phoenix a couple of times a month. Being a creature of habit..I stay at the same hotel every time. It’s cheap, it’s clean, it has free Wi-fi, free parking and a really good free breakfast buffet. All for about $79 average. Can’t ask for much more.
