I wear saddle shoes all the time during winter. Bought a pair to wear to car shows and like them so much, they’re my every-day shoes now. I wear poodle skirts to the shows too.
And I wore that stuff when I was a kid. :-)
My Great Grandmother used to use American brand snuff, I believe it was. The jars are drinking glasses at our cabin, Grandmothers home and a few at the parents :-)
Pat Boone songs, right?
Love Letters in the Sand.
Took me a while to think of ‘Boone.”
We had them too in Australia - everything tasted better and cooler from those metal cups!
Oh my gosh! You do??? I bet it’s fun!
We have a dance place here where once a month they play the “Oldies”....I keep saying I’m going to go but haven’t made it there yet. They have dinner first then dance. I really need to check that out!
We also have a Community Church here that has “Car Hops” where they gather with the old cars and drive about the back roads etc. Additionally a huge Community Show held downtown where they park on the streets and you can get a good look at these incredible machines!
Yes that’s Boone’s Song. Pat Ballard wrote it who had a beautiful house in my home town, so we all knew him more than Boone. I use to play in the lower garden with the neighbor kids.
But I sure would get sad when my sisters boy friends would tell me my mom was calling me.....of course I was the sister she had to drag along and they wanted to get rid of me! LOLOL.
It’s odd but I remember more of what my sister did and had then I do what I did and had!.... There were three years difference in our ages. Perhaps because I was the “middle” child that gets lost in between! LOLOL
I should go back to bed...it’s almost 4:00 in the morning here! But not having to work tomorrow it’s great to have time when I want to just take it! I could adjust to this very easily!!! LOLOL
Thank you so much for THAT information! I learned a fact from you.
I’m heading to bed right now, also.
good night, God bless and keep you.
Hubby and I have been going to car shows for years - - first to drool and later we bought our own cars to show. I quickly decided saddle shoes and poodle skirts, with a crinoline slip, were a "must". LOL!
This pic was taken with our first show car in '03. A photographer snapped it for a car magazine and gave me a copy.
Sleep very well Onyx....... It’s raining here now so once my head hits the pillow I’ll be off to sleep in no time. Love the patter of rain on the roof!
Thank you for the smiles.
The rare time we went out to eat breakfast, we went to Sambos. I loved the “tiger butter”. I do not know if the chain was in all of the state
McDonald’s was a treat. Fries were fried in tallow. Shakes were made with real ice cream and milk, not shake-flavored chemicals. I miss real food served in restaurants.
I have some of the metal cups. I would still be using my Monkey Ward gas range if I had not left it at the in-law’s place. Their renter destroyed it in months.
I miss getting Foremost milk in glass bottles, along with other dairy products delivered in the wee hours of the morning.
Perfection!!!! Great photo!
No (dah) I haven’t checked it out...I keep forgetting they have it!
My son bought a Hot Rod from California and had it shipped out here. Even the interior was original and in great shape. I only rode in it a few times but noticed how people you drove by gave the thumbs up!... It’s Eggshell Blue with a White Vinyl Hood also Original and wonderful condition.
I think it’s grand you go to the show and “Dress” the part too! It has to be loads of fun, and meeting others like yourself that love the older cars. That’s the neat thing about finding things you enjoy...you meet people of like minds.
I actually drove my moms Ford Futura, which was the car of the year, after she passed on. Not that old but I called it a “Boat!” My mechanic said I could drive it til it wouldn’t move anymore....was in good shape but ugly color to be sure. Cinnamon colored inside and out! LOL
BTW...When I lived in Lancaster Pa...they had a Vintage clothing store there which was so fun to browse in. In fact Holly wood would often call the guy to get clothing from his place for movies and such.
I know they have Vintage clothing on line too...your outfit looked splendid!
Mark your calendar so you don’t forget the next dance night. Bet you’ll have a great time. I wish they had something like that around here.
The classics are head-turners, no doubt, and it’s fun to cruise along the roads watch people’s reactions. Heck, my head turns when I see one, even if I’m driving mine. LOL! I don’t drive The Beast (that big black Lincoln) any more. Hubby bought me a ‘57 Chevy, restored it, and I’ve been driving and showing that since late ‘03.
I like the big “boats” and kind of miss driving The Beast. That one isn’t a “boat”, though. It’s an “aircraft carrier”! That car is huge!
I take it you don’t have your mom’s Futura any more?
Vintage clothing stores are fun to shop in. There were a couple of them in Raleigh, NC when I lived there years ago. Nothing like that in the Podunk nowhere town I live in now. :-(
I got the skirt and slip online but bought the shoes locally. A friend inherited her family’s shoe store, which was an old store when I was a child, and she had some in stock for a while. She’ll still order them if someone shows up that wants a pair. Another friend asked me where I got my shoes the other night and I told her where to go for them. They’re getting popular again, apparently. I’ve had several people ask me where I got my shoes.
I really loved couches like that. No overfilled, over fluffed nonsense. And people knew not to crash land on them.
Bob’s Big Boy ... Anybody remember Sambo’s?
We have a total of 9 in our family, the 2 parents, 3 boys, and 4 girls. When we had any money, dad drove us to the A & W Drive-In, with the roller skate waitresses and all. All 4 windows were 3/4 down, and the food trays would be latched to all 4 windows. There were Mama Burgers & Papa Burgers, and the french fries seemed to never end. Great stuff.
One thing I always remembered were those aluminum anodized cups we all had when I was a kid. At least the way I remembered it, anything you put in them seemed twice as cold as it really was. We used to carry them out to the pump on a tray and fill them up (yes, a hand pump outside). Even though most of the family had running water in the house, they all used the hand pump to get drinking water. I never really understood why.
I finally found some on ebay that I had wanting forever.
When I was a kid, I can't even describe how much fun and hours of entertainment I had playing with one of these.
