I understand that the dog might not be unemployed long. A Chinese restaurant has invited him in for an interview. He’s big enough to serve several tables.

He tried to join the Coast Guard, but he gets seasick. He’d have to be a “land guy.”

Cash should be tried out for bed bug detection.

Before you laugh, there is a huge demand for dogs that can detect bed bugs. It is a very lucrative business.

“A Belgian Malinois trained to be the ninth member of a Cannon Beach, Oregon, police force has been given the boot, evidently unfit for the field of law enforcement. “

9 police dogs in a town of 1690 people. Something tells me the taxpayers of Cannon Beach are being taken for a ride.

“Cannon Beach is a city in Clatsop County, Oregon, United States. The population was 1,690 at the 2010 census.”

Among his many faults: He was afraid of heights. He had barking difficulties. And he startled at the slightest of noises, AP reported. On top of that, he couldn’t perform one of his key roles — jumping into high spots, like counters, to sniff out drugs. Instead, he’d just start barking, police said. “[Barking is] fine as an alert, but you can’t get anything done when you’re trying to get him to find dope and he’s just barking in your face,”

More likely, a dog that is constantly barking would lead to doubt from the jury. Saying the dog "hit" on a scent could just be an excuse to go digging.

Anybody know what an already trained drug sniffing dog would cost? I smell a bidness opportunity.

I was blessed to have the company of Belgian Malinois in my life, and Cash doesn’t look like a pure Malinois. I think there might be something else blended in, if you get my drift. His face is way too black.

That said, I would also take him in a NY minute, because if he has Malinois blood in him, he is a “keeper”. It might be the other part that is causing him to flunk out.

Some info about the Malinois that many law agencies do not understand... they are very different in temperament from the overbred GSDs, and need a totally different training protocol. They are not suited to boring jobs, like sniffing cars at border check-points, as these are not challenging enough for them as a daily routine.

They are quicker to “get it”, and constantly repeated exercises frustrate them. They get bored, and tune out on the “dumb trainer” . They need variety when being trained, and chances to succeed at variations on whatever skill is being taught.

They can quickly learn what you want them to do by just watching another dog do the training exercise. Once they show you that they know it, if given these monotonous exercises over and over again, they tend to “blow” you off, and refuse to co-operate further.

Just my opinion, of course.

Father-in-law trained bomb/drug dawgs. One of his traineees made it through the $10K program, only to find out the dawg skitzed around jet/turbine engines. Thunder became daddy’s watch dawg. Dumbest damn shepard I’ve ever met.

Pretty brazen name.

Not “Justice.” Not “Safety.” Not “Backup.”

“Cash.”

M’kay, that’s clear enough.

I don’t understand this. How does a dog “graduate” from this type of training program and they not know this about his temperament and/or lack of training?
