The first Star Wars: The Force Awakens teaser has finally arrived.

"There has been an awakening — have you felt it? The dark side, and the light," says an ominous voice, just before Hans Solo's Falcon soars into view and the franchise's iconic theme song plays.

agreed. The Heir to the Empire trilogy would make a fabulous story for 7, 8 and 9.

Less work for the writers—adapting existing material as opposed to writing/rewriting a script.

Guaranteed increased income from fans who have been reading the books for the past 20 years:

Heir to the Empire
Dark Force Rising
The Last Command

I’m surprirsed Disney didn’t just pay Zahn whatever he was asking for movie rights. It’s a win-win scenario for them.

Did not capture the attention of my 11-year-old, second-generation, Star Wars nerd. Nor the first generation one, for that matter. Gonna have to really improve upon the prequels, otherwise they’re just going to be known as the Star Wars Suquels.

I have never understood why Jar Jar annoyed people but the Ewoks didn’t.

That's easy...

Jar Jar Binks acts, talks like a retarded Jamaican alien, Eworks are cute and fuzzie...

Why is the dark side sword a cross?

Eworks are cute and fuzzie...

...and crafty. The damage they can inflict with logs and sticks borders on tai chi jedi.

I have zero interest in any of these “Star Wars” flicks.

Based on Abram’s abortion/attempted reboot of the “Star Trek” franchise, I can see these films being PC bilge with massive plot holes that are either ignored or band-aided over with special effects, just like in the “Star Trek” reboot.

The masses will go see them and the films will generate metric tons of revenue. But these flicks will be most likely be worse/much worse than the 3 prequels, where at least there was the anticipation of watching Darth Vader be created to captivate imagination. Are these sequels going to follow the canon storyline that leads to the final destruction of the Sith? I highly doubt it.

As far as this trailer is concerned, the voiceover was a C grade video game narrative and what’s with the goofy black dude popping into the first frame. It’s like a scene out of Spaceballs.

Pass.

Can’t be any worse than the fake Green Lantern movie trailer! Only a little over seven million views.

RW was still low budget, but higher intensity.

Liked MM as well, once I got a non-dubbed version.

Ehh. The little kids like them. And it sells toys. And at the end of the day, that’s ALL it’s about.

And for the record... I think that stupid Rastafarian wannabe Jar Jar Binks should have been boiled alive in a steaming vat of Wampa poop.

But hey... that’s just me...

Carrie Fisher wont fit into that slave outfit that she wore in Jedi 1983.

I hope they didn’t try to get her into a bigger one, GAG.

>> No lens flares? <<

Heh. My first thought as well. J.J. Abrams sure pumped them into every frame of his Star Trek movies. But the "trailer" here is only 30 seconds long so it didn't really show much of anything. I can't believe people are getting "excited" so much by it. There's still a year to go before the movie so it will probably be a while before there's a real trailer actually showing important parts of the movie.

>> The Abrams reboots of Star Trek are pretty crappy aside from advances in FX and cinematography. But to under 40s it must look spectacular. <<

Ahem. I'm "under 40" and old enough to remember Star Trek: The Next Generation on TV. The biggest problem with Abrams Trek movies were not what we saw on screen, but what we DIDN'T see on screen. I have yet to see these guys give us a storyline with substance and quite frankly, I don't think they're capable of it.

>> I am with you, I have never understood why Jar Jar annoyed people but the Ewoks didn’t. <<

People complained about the Ewoks back in 1983, and accused Lucas of making the third film too lighthearted and marketed to children. Then the prequels came around 16 years later and made the Ewoks look like Apocalyse Now in comparison. Jar Jar had to be one of the most obnoxious characters in movie history. All that being said, I never "got" why Chewbacca is beloved by Star Wars fans in the original story. He's just a one-dimensional "alien sidekick" like Jar Jar, albeit less annoying and not an offensive sterotype. Once you've seen him growl in the first movie, you've pretty much seen everything you need to see about Chewbacca. His relation with Han Solo reminded me of the way Timmy reacts to Lassie. He makes the same sound all the time and his human sidekick instantly knows what he wants. Chewbacca: Ahhwwwwwooo! Han Solo: I told you, Chewie, we can't stop for fried chicken right now! You should have picked some up at the last outpost. Chewbacca: Ahhwwwwwooo! Han Solo: Oh yeah? Well, same to you, pal!

>> I think that stupid Rastafarian wannabe Jar Jar Binks should have been boiled alive in a steaming vat of Wampa poop. <<

Heh. I'm too young to remember the premieres of the original Star Wars movies (I wasn't even in preschool yet when Return of the Jedi was released in '83), but remember when the Star Wars prequels came out back in the summer of '99, and honestly it was the most OVERHYPED movie "event" in my life. There were stories of Star Wars fans camping out all night to get tickets to the TRAILERS and then walking out after seeing a preview of their beloved prequel. People acted like it would be the greatest movie event of our lifetime and you MUST see this movie in theaters because you owe it to your grandkids to say you saw the Phantom Menace on the big screen. Now people laugh at those ridiculous prequels as two hour ILM commercials marketed to seven year olds. I really hope we don't have to go through this again ("OMG OMG OMG Star Wars will be soooo amazing") sixteen years later.

>> Man, after being burnt by the awful prequels and Abrams’ mixed bag reboot of Trek, I don’t WANT to like it, but I’m liking it (so far). <<

Take away the "I'm liking it so far", and that's how I feel. I can't get "excited" about this, although to be fair it looks OKAY so far and I can't imagine how it could be worse than the prequels. Of course, I'm never been a huge Star Wars fanboy... I enjoyed the originals on video on the 80s and 90s as fun popcorn escapist entertainment, but it was never a huge event to me, it was just a fun trilogy ala Indiana Jones (and I never bought into the hype for the now universally loathed fourth Indiana Jones movie, either! To this day I haven't seen it, and I'm glad I realized they should have stopped after the third one)

>> Did not capture the attention of my 11-year-old, second-generation, Star Wars nerd. Nor the first generation one, for that matter. Gonna have to really improve upon the prequels, otherwise they’re just going to be known as the Star Wars Suquels. <<

I've always been much of a Star Trek fan than a Star Wars fan. Ironically, Abrams basically turned the Star Trek prequels INTO Star Wars (silly fantasy movies about fighting 'bad guys'... Kirk hanging off a cliff in every movie and engaging in laser battles with evil troops is very Star Warsish), so it makes sense he's doing the real Star Wars now. As Fieldmarshaldj noted, in an ideal world we could get revenge by turning Star Wars into Star Trek and making a philosophical Star Wars movie about exploring the unknown. Fat chance of that ever happening, though...

Yep. That's why I can't get excited even if it looks "okay" so far.

>> The masses will go see them and the films will generate metric tons of revenue Yep the bank account awakens. I’ve heard that they often reach the point of diminishing returns with sequels, prequels, and reboots of franchises. Not to over simplify, but its like these reboots and sequels just aren’t the same. Doesn’t tell the story the same way, doesn’t leave you with the same feelings as the originals. Just my opinion that I have been disappointed by many sequels and reboots. <<

Hollywood has ruined a lot of iconic franchises. What they did to the Pink Panther should be a crime. I'm seeing so many projects "in development" now that I wish they'd have the dignity to let the franchise rest. We don't need a Terminator "reboot", Poltergeist remake, another Jurassic Park sequel, etc. I heard the Robocop remake was mediocre and they managed to make an even worse Superman film than the previous attempt at a revival. There's only a few franchises that are doing well. Examples include X-Men, Planet of the Apes, and James Bond (in SPITE of Daniel Craig)

I hope the force isn’t hung over from the prequels. The force might need some aspirin.

Stormtroopers, tie fighters, x-wings, Tatooine looking like a shitehole, how very exciting it is to see things from the original movies......I haven’t been this excited after seeing a trailer since I saw the trailer for the next episode of “Law and Order: SVU” (spoiler alert, a chick gets raped).

One thing I heard they’re recycling from the prequels is Ewan McGregor as Obi-Wan Kenobi. It’s really unnecessary since the character has been dead since the end of the original 1977 Star Wars (when he was played by Alec Guinness). Nevertheless, he appeared in the two sequels (when Guinness played him as a ghost) and in all three prequels (when McGregor played young Obi-Wan). Apparently McGregor will now be older, dead, ghostly Obi-Wan Kenobi. The only way that WON’T be cringeworthy is if they use aging makeup and do it well enough so he’s made up to look exactly like the late Alec Guinness.

That being said, McGregor was good in the prequels. At least Hayden Christensen won’t be returning. I bet they bring Darth Vader back from the dead, though.
