Bubonic Plague Spreads in Madagascar

Madagascar said Monday it was trying to contain an outbreak of plague -- similar to the Black Death that swept medieval Europe -- that has killed 47 people and is spreading to the capital Antananarivo.

Quick! Bring ten of thousands of their children here and put them in public schools. Also, bring their parents and other hangers-ons here and give them social security and medicaid. Quick!

Let's hope penguins are not carriers of the disease.

The first people to settle Madagascar were not from Africa but from southeast Asia and the Malagasy language is most closely rated to languages in the Malaysia-Indonesia area. Some black Africans were brought in later so the present population is a mixture.

In all the flash video game where you get to be a pandemic virus nailing Madagascar is the crown jewel. Meanwhile, the Black Plague really isn’t a big deal if people are smart about it. There are places all over the world where it’s active, if you’re in one and you get flu like symptoms in the next couple of weeks head straight to your doc and say “I was in a Black Plague zone” and get treated. Caught quickly survival chances are about the same as with the flu.
