Last weekend, my housemate and I were mugged at gunpoint while walking home from Dupont Circle. The entire incident lasted under a minute, as I was forced to the floor, handed over my phone and was patted down.
And yet, when a reporter asked whether I was surprised that this happened in Georgetown, I immediately answered: “Not at all.” It was so clear to me that we live in the most privileged neighborhood within a city that has historically been, and continues to be, harshly unequal. While we aren’t often confronted by this stark reality west of Rock Creek Park, the economic inequality is very real.

Liberals don’t understand some people are evil.

Of course he deserved it. Live in Georgetown, probably some elite, inside the beltway, liberal who is actually completely to blame for the state the country is in.
That's probably because you were raised not to think Society owes you something and, as a result, you needed to work to get the things you want. These bozos were taught the easy way...take it from other people. They learned that from Obozo, too, only he uses the tax code instead of a gun.
Since that's the way you feel, why not just carry a wad of cash on you, paint a big bullseye on your back, carrying a sign that says: "I have a bucket-load of cash on me! Help yourself!" The fact you're not bright enough to see it that way is your problem. I'm stunned that you can fog a mirror without help.
My guess is he made the whole thing up.

This guy hasn’t a clue how the world works outside of his pampered, warm and fuzzy existence. This is called failing to learn the lesson causing him to arrive at incorrect conclusions. Agreed, next time it may well cost him his life. Bet he never thought about that....the perp may require more than his $ and cell.
And the next time this pu$$y gets mugged and the perp decides to off him, what’s he gonna think?

OMG, yet another DC lib idiot writing articles accepting their own mugging due to their own privileged guilt. I must have read at least 4 or 5 of these stupid articles in the past few years.

Think of how more rewarding the article would have been if the author had said, “A mugger attempted to mug me, and I shot him to death, and I understand why”.

The entire incident lasted under a minute, and the mugger lay dead at our feet.”
Instead the author and his housemate could be dead, the most recent casualties of this robber who would almost certainly rob, and perhaps kill, again.
The motivations of the robber truly do not matter. His actions matter. And by carrying out those actions, his life is forfeit.

You live in a privileged neighborhood by choice. If you’re so worried about the under-privileged, move into a black ghetto to make yourself feel better.
Your post is so incredibly spot-on. We have neighborhoods like that in the city of Minneapolis.
They are enclaves of white upper middle class liberals who talk a good game about understanding/peace/love - but would never in a million years move into one of the less desirable neighborhoods.
Sure they will be. Almost everyone has family and friends who cares about them.
Truly a man’s man.
He was mugged because he -- and other enablers like him -- excuse behaviors which are not exhibited by civilized human beings. It would be acceptable for him and his fellow liberals to live outside of civilization, indeed, it would be condign punishment. But unfortunately, it means that civil society is also disintegrating for those of us who don't want to participate in his criminal enabling.
Notice too, that this sums up the liberal attitude toward criminal aliens as well: "People invaded my country, and I understand why." Nope, you don't. Understanding why would mean that you'd come to understand that YOU ARE THE WHY.
I am happy that a good majority of the comments are ripping this fool to shreds.
