Well the judge, jury, and executioner made the call.
What a tragedy, young life taken and officer has to live
with this error (or not), (each person can decide that) for the rest of their life.
Terrible sad story.
"The officers ordered him to stop and to show his hands and he went into his waistband and pulled out the weapon," [Cleveland Deputy Chief Ed Tomba] said.Tomba showed reporters the weapon -- a large, black BB- or pellet-type replica gun resembling a semiautomatic pistol. An orange tip indicating the gun was an air gun had been removed, police said.
It reminds me of those Air-Soft pistols. They do indeed look like the real thing. In fact I served on a jury where on of these was used to commit a crime. Given the circumstances I cannot fault the cop.
If that statement is true, the 12-year-old simply submitted his application to be a Darwin Award winner.
Just in time to morph into another reason to riot with the announcing of the Fergasun decision. A few more of these and obummer can declare martial law.
I was once in a supermarket parking lot when a man walked backwards from behind a van yelling angrily at someone I could not see and holding an Uzi. He had taken the toy away from his kid after the kid had refused to put it back in the van before they went into the store. I about pissed myself.
nobody deserves to die for carrying a BB gun
The training worked exactly like it was supposed to!
single parent household, I’m sure. poor kid didn’t have a chance before he was even born. no one taught him that pointing even an air gun at a cop would get you shot.
was the kid in walamrt? concerned citizen + 911 + bb gun = graveyard here lately...wasn`t the walmart bb gun = dead guy incident in Cleveland also?
Mike
According to Fox8 Cleveland:
One 911 caller said the suspect was probably a juvenile and that the gun was probably a fake.
When two officers arrived, they found the boy and ordered him to raise his hands. He did not comply with the officers orders and reached into his waistband, according to police. Shots were fired, and he was hit in the torso.
A Cleveland news station is reporting that there IS a video of this shooting being reviewed now.
Poor kid. This is terrible.
Most 12yo boys aren’t much different from 10-year-olds. They move around a lot and don’t think like adults yet. If this boy did reach into his waistband, he probably just wanted to show the officer that the “gun” was fake.
What I do not understand, and perhaps our trigger happy cops could tell us — do cops now blast everyone with a fake gun and shoot dogs when they engage with the public as standard operating procedure? You've got some really brave cops out there, America. If this is the new normal, then the potential victims should have the right to blast you first, since you've got murder on your mind?
I too would be dead pulling out a GUN on an officer.
It was only in late September at a Walmart that a cop shot and killed some guy who was carrying a BB gun to the cash register to purchase it.
Cops have reached the point where they are no longer expected to think logically.
A grand jury decided not to file charges Wednesday against police officers who shot and killed 22-year-old John Crawford III inside a Beavercreek, Ohio, Wal-Mart for carrying a BB gun.
