Country star Ty Herndon has something to share: He's an "out, proud and happy gay man."
Herndon, 52, came out publicly as gay in an interview with People magazine.
He says he's known he was gay since he was a child and started coming out to family members in his 20s. But the "What Mattered Most" singer, who had a number of hits in the 1990s, kept the news close to the vest.
It wasn't until he attended a Tony Robbins seminar in 2009 that he decided to become more public, he told the magazine.
"I realized I had an incredible story that could possibly help someone's son or daughter or grandchild's life not be as difficult as mine has been," he said. "Maybe they wouldn't have to go through as much pain and suffering. It's time to tell my truth." The country music world hasn't always been the friendliest to LGBTQ people, but Herndon sees signs that's changing. Singer Chely Wright came out in 2010 and the open-minded Kacey Musgraves has a song titled "Follow Your Arrow" that was just named CMA song of the year.
"I felt so proud of my city," he said. "I hope that trend continues; I pray it does."
Herndon has been in a relationship with his partner for six years. He doesn't expect his life to change radically now that he's made his announcement.

Anyone who tells you they have known they were gay “since I was a child” is lying. Children do not know what sex is, much less homosexuality. The lie’s purpose is to reinforce the “born that way” excuse. But being born that way is irrelevant. If that is indeed the case, God knows that, and He still said not to practice homosexuality.

Doggone it ..... he’s got two songs that I really love: A Man Holding On To A Woman Letting Go & It Must Be Love. I had no idea - just heard the songs and didn’t know anything about his personal life.

Haven’t heard of more than 10 country singers, he/she/it is not one.
I honestly don't remember Ty Herndon having any hits. He's the Michael Sams of country music -- the gay guy that the press builds up into something he never was.
I remember Chely Wright coming out floored me, that I didn’t see coming. She was really cute.
This is why Modern Country Music sucks! And I’m a pedal steel guitarist!
Well as a taxpayer living in an age were individual health care plans are being overloaded by government control/regulations, I do not look forward to use my tax money to fund his chronic rectal prolapses (That offer exactly jack squat to further civilization forward) along with whatever health problems homosexual CHOOSE to push the public to pay for.
I didn’t know country music involved playing the flute.
