28 senators who voted for Obamacare and won't be part of new Senate
Washington Examiner ^ | Philip Klein

On Dec. 24, 2009, the Democratic-controlled Senate passed President Obama’s healthcare law with a filibuster-proof 60-vote majority, triggering a massive backlash that propelled Republicans to control of the House the following year. On the Senate side, going into Tuesday’s elections, 24 senators who voted for Obamacare were already out or not going be part of the new Senate being sworn in on January.

To be sure, it isn’t fair to attribute all of the turnover in the chamber to Obamacare. Many senators voted for Obamacare and lost re-election battles in which they were hit hard for their support for the law, and other Democrats were forced to retire because they had no hope of getting re-elected given their support for the law. But in some cases — such as John Kerry leaving his seat to become secretary of state, or Robert Byrd passing away — Obamacare clearly had nothing to do with it.

This needs to become “standard knowledge”. That if you vote to nationalize healthcare, you will be voted out of office.

That if you vote to nationalize healthcare, you will be voted out of office.

They used to call that kind of thing "the third rail of politics."

That expression seems to have dropped into the memory hole.

No, no, not impeach. Not now. But impede, that’s a plan. Challenge every one of his nominations for appointive office, whether within the Administrative Branch, the judiciary, the ambassador vacancies, or on appointed boards of governors. Slow-walk them, never bringing it to a vote, or if it is voted upon, make sure there is some Republican Senator that may put a “hold” on the nomination, until the inevitable recess comes up, then the Current Occupant shall be FORCED to make a recess appointment, which expires with his term of office.

Pass repeated measures for the abolition of a number of different regulatory agencies, INCLUDING the IRS, and present tax proposals, like the Fair Tax, that virtually eliminate ANY necessity for IRS. Strip out all the tax provisions on individuals, corporations, and goods or services that now appear in the “Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010”, and otherwise eviscerate most of the provisions contained in that badly conceived and written atrocity.

I was told that the third rail was social security.

Did 28 Republican senators lose their jobs over their position of Social Security?

I rest my case.

This is what you do to change the equation in Washington, instead of your plan to demand mass suicide by conservatives.

Dude, I’m not arguing with you.

I was just pointing out that to my generation, “third rail” and “Social Security” are so tied together that the use of the phrase “third rail” would not easily be converted or stretched to mean nationalized health care.

However, the spirit of that meme is very much what needs to be placed in the minds of politicians. Make them afraid, very afraid for their jobs if they even think about nationalizing health care.

I guess maybe it should be called "the suicide belt of politics."

Kind of brings it up to date, and gets it aligned with the President's cultural preferences.
